Lying children will grow up to be successful citizens
The earlier a child starts telling convincing lies the more likely they are to be a success in later life, new research suggests.

By Richard Alleyne, Science Correspondent
Published: 6:00PM BST 16 May 2010

Researchers have found that the ability to tell fibs at the age of two is a sign of a fast developing brain and means they are more likely to have successful lives.

They found that the more plausible the lie, the more quick witted they will be in later years and the better their abiliy to think on their feet.

It also means that they have developed "executive function" - the ability to invent a convincing lie by keeping the truth at the back of their mind.

“Parents should not be alarmed if their child tells a fib,” said Dr Kang Lee, director of the Institute of Child Study at Toronto Universit who carried out the research.

“Almost all children lie. Those who have better cognitive development lie better because they can cover up their tracks. They may make bankers in later life.”

Lying involves multiple brain processes, such as integrating sources of information and manipulating the data to their advantage.

It is linked to the development of brain regions that allow “executive functioning” and use higher order thinking and reasoning.

3. I would not want to be part of the lying world.
In most opinions he can only make a comment that has any value if it is from inside a prison, although it would require a trial, the outcome is not debated much.

Then from prison, he could make a comment from a just system, until then he is part of the system he chooses to be part of that is not part of justice.

May he find love and peace in his struggles.

4. Or are we evaluating this from within a society in which liers currently get ahead?
Could they have found out that Children who are better and more willing to lie in societies in which liers are rewarded are better able to get ahead?

I am not sure this says that the ability to lie is necessarily healthier.

10. What other society are we expected to evaluate it from?
You dance with them what brung ya.

Society rewards lying because of the nature of lying: lying gives you an advantage over someone who doesn't know you're lying.

Even if society castigated liars once they're discovered, the damage is done.

For example, if we tried Bush and Cheney and sent them to prison for lying about weapons of mass destruction, it won't undo the damage that was done before society "discovered" that it was all a lie.

6. i find my sons to be quick witted and an ability to think on feet cause they are always
challenge to think, express, explain on all issues.

i dont think they need to lie to develop their brain functions.

this is really sad

and how many people live a failed life from being caught lying or ruined life because they obsessively lie to themselves

I think on my feet quite well, and it does come in handy. I don't remember lying early, though, and I'm not a banker, politician or lawyer.

8. Damn... what a horrendously cynical piece...
Somehow I'm betting there are equivocal issues in this study that the authors choose to interpret as they have... At least I hope so.

12. My ability to lie has facilitated
me in my rise to the top of a Fortune 500 company, the earning of three doctorates, the ability to speak six languages, and dating a string of super-models and pop stars.

Yeah, pop stars; that's it -- that's the ticket.

13. While it may indicate intelligence, children need to be taught not to use deception
It can prevent them from using that intelligence to productive and healthy ends. We may not need more rich bankers in the world.
