A brief history of Europe's sexist attitudes: a satire
When I was in Europe last summer, I saw boobies on the beach in Barcelona. Real. Naked. Boobies. Unbelievable. We need to boycott Europe for their sexist attitudes. I know that some of you are going to say that these women choose to go topless on these beaches, but that doesn't matter. I saw men looking at those boobies in a lustful fashion. It's horrible. It must stop. I did not see one naked male, either. Which is further proof of the sexism.

1. I agree.
There are plenty of legitimate reasons to disparage PETA. No reason to resort to prudery.

2. What were the women being paid to sell?
Get it now?

4. PETA uses volunteers.
Next argument?

And I thought the point was that any time people glare at boobies, it's bad because it perpetuates the stereotype/thought that women are just sex objects. I saw men looking at those women in Spain like they were sex objects. That's bad.

7. You thought wrong, and I shouldn't have distracted you by using the word 'paid'.
Whether they're paid or not makes no difference. Using women's bodies to sell things unrelated by context to whatever is being sold ... well that's a pretty big clue right there.

9. So that's what backpedaling sounds like.
It isn't unrelated. PETA feels that we shouldn't see animals as so much "cuts of meat" to feed us. To get that point across, they show women that are in the format of cuts of meat in order to shock us into thinking that isn't right. Then the transfer of "that isn't right" hopefully goes from women to non-human animals. It's all very contextual.

And the "I'd rather be naked than wear fur" is trying to show that you don't need fur or a meat-based diet to be beautiful. And for those ads they use both men and women.

Next argument?

11. LOL... that wasn't backpedaling at all.

And let's not leave this out, shall we? Were you being fatuous or did you really think that? I would be more than happy to discuss the entitlement involved in the Male Gaze phenomenon, if you really want to. It's offtopic but needs to be discussed often, as most people don't get it at all.

As for using both men and women - where are the ads showing black men bloodied lying in the street, or dead under plastic wrap? Where are the men on their hands and knees in cages out in public? Not that that would make their tactics admirable... but at least they woudln't be so obviously slanted against women.

3. I can't buy into the idea that expression of sexuality = sexism.
I understand there are legitimate issues with women being exploited. But I also think there are people creating academic rationalizations for opposing what makes them feel uncomfortable.

8. Oh jesus fucking christ.
No one is objecting to boobs. They're objecting to PETA reducing women to sex objects in order to sell a cause.

How incredibly passive aggressive of you to start an entirely new thread on the topic, as opposed to responding in the ones that are already active.

10. How incredibly fascist of you to tell me how I can make my point.
Why didn't the three other people that created new PETA threads not just stick to the main one that came first?

I address the "sex objects" above. I'm a little tired of typing it.

12. How incredibly hyperbolic of you to use the word "fascist."
You know, I hear Hitler was a fan of hyperbole. Nice company you keep.
