Shut down all of BP's US drilling operations. Now.
Not just because they created possibly the worst environmental disaster in US history due to their own negligence and arrogance, but because now that we are in the midst of it their expression of callous indifference to the impact of their actions demonstrates that they are predators who possesses a pathological disregard for people and the enviromnet-->>>http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=8357864

Seriously. Shut them down, investigate, and prosecute.

1. While that might get their corporate attention
it would also send gas prices back to four bucks a gallon overnight.

Just be aware that there are always unintended consequences.

4. Funny how us little people have to beware of unintended consequences
but the nastiest corporations do not. Let the cost of gas sky-rocket. Perhaps then we will become committed to getting off the teat of big oil.

8. With the skyrocketing gas prices
will also come a deep resentment of the Obama administration and Democrats in general.

You sure you want that in an election year that's already shaping up to be full of nasty surprises?

12. Please don't make this about politics
As long as these practices are assessed through the political eye, we will continue to allow the killing of our citizens, our food supply, and our planet.

13. It is about politics, it's always about politics
and doing something to ensure a Republican sweep of both houses of Congress is another unintended consequence that will produce the opposite of what you intended.

You do need to think about these things even if it's distasteful.

16. That's exactly why taxes on plutocrats have to be raised
in order to provide seed money for startups generating energy that doesn't use fossil fuels. The plutocrats won't risk their money on it willingly, they must be forced through taxation.

That's always been the case in this country and it always will be. The rich will simply not risk their money investing in their country.

Nationalize the energy sector.

It's a start.

2. How much you want to pay for your gas? If that was done I
guarantee the Wall Street speculators would bid oil up to $200 a barrel and put us into another economic free-fall.

6. Stop all operations where Halliburton did the cementing as well
I have been really worried about this, not the first time and it just happened in Australia thanks to Halliburton. I believe that the Australia leak was going for some time before they realized...so I am sure they are going and checking all of their rigs now...right....??

7. K&R. At least all their offshore has to be locked down
High gas easily beats more damage. What if Atlantis goes kaboom or loses it's well head or something? Is that worth avoiding a short term pricing spike caused purely by speculation. Please stop pretending we produce enough oil to meaningfully affect supply.

9. BP's own words demonstrate that they are unfit to operate
I am beyond pissed (bp). I am fortunate to have a wonderful progressive, Earl Bluemenauer, as my representative. When I called to urge him to shut down BP the staffer was very polite and told me of the actions that he was taking which was all good stuff but I had to keep reasserting my position. Shut BP down.

15. I also believe that all deep sea drilling should be stopped at once
Clearly the oil industry has absolutely no clue on how to stop a major blowout from billowing millions of gallons of petro into the sea. If they can't fix a disaster, then nobody should be allowed to create one.

17. Shut down all oil operations that aren't incorporated in the USA and
nationalize them. I bet we would get most of them out. But we would need to resurrect FDR to do that. None of these other corporate shills would have the stomach to do the right thing.

20. We do need FDR...or people with the will to do it
It is sad to see wonderful progressives worried more about the political angle than the reality of the threat that these predators pose.

+1000 to you.
