Alabamans take a liberal attitude toward a high school geometry teacher's 'mistake'
...Superintendent Phil Hammonds said the teacher remains at work, and there are no plans for termination.

"We are going to have a long conversation with him about what's appropriate," Hammonds said. "It was extremely poor judgment on his part, and a poor choice of words."

Caroline Polk, the parent of a ninth-grader at the school, said she doesn't believe the teacher ought to be fired.

"We all make mistakes, and we should be able to learn from our mistakes," she said. "What he said was just wrong and inappropriate. Everyone's got their own opinions, but we have to be aware of our surroundings. At this point, it just needs to be handled in a way that it won't be repeated."

What did he say?

He used the example of setting up an assassination of President Obama to demonstrate parallel lines and angles.

It's a public matter, a public school teacher.

But no mention of his name. Hmmmm.

28. A lurking freeper picked up the link.
"I loved Coach Harrison and feel he was only teaching that way because these days it is hard to get students to pay attention or understand! I agree it may have been a mistake on his part.Still like him"

Notice how the freeper pretends to have actually been a student.

Highly doubtful. Fraud suits them, I guess.

15. Just imagine the reaction...
...had he made the exact same statement 3 years ago when Bush was still in office.

And who gives a damn what that dipshit parent says. "We all make mistakes". Right. Again: I wonder how charitable she would have been had it been a different -- i.e. white Republican -- president in office.

The teacher would have been fired, tarred and feathered, and shipped to GITMO.

OMG, you are so fired and in Gitmo!

Pretending it's funny to plan to kill Obama is not a crime in Alabama.

Usually they are screwing up or dumbing down kids in the social studies department, oh never mind, he was doing it from the math department quite well.

30. This prompted a rant to an Alabama conservative relative...
and it felt soooooo good. And I didn't even use profanity! I wrote this yesterday and, oddly for this relative, haven't heard back from him. ;)

He'd be fired in a heartbeat if I had any say. I don't care who is president -- this is blatantly ignorant, irresponsible behavior. A slap on the hand for this is ridiculous. Consequences are in order, especially as it involves a public school, and aren't we supposed to be teaching these kids actions have consequences?

Since the school district isn't denying this, I don't think it's a conspiracy by the "liberal media." I still think people viewing the media as "liberal" is a joke; for the last 10 years it's mainly corporate media -- MEGAcorporations, not small corporations -- and MEGAcorporations SURELY aren't liberal. They're all about preserving the status quo which means they continue to control everything, including the message the public receives.

I think you should start a movement for conservatives to be true to their supposed philosophy of being responsible and accountable for their actions. I sure haven't seen any of that from conservatives or Republicans in a long time...politicians or regular people.

As far as I can tell from the majority of them, everything bad that has ever happened in this country since Reagan is somehow Bill Clinton's fault or now Obama's (of course, Clinton's mythical powers extend back before he was president somehow...lol).

I'm not saying Democrats or liberals are doing the right thing, either. But this isn't about them. They never claimed this "moral" label; and the ones who have, have fallen hard (John Edwards).

It's Republicans and conservatives who have put themselves on this moral pedestal - with personal accountability a cornerstone (as I agree with being accountable and responsible, btw) - as we've discussed before. But all I see is them continuing to spout the words with which I agree but their actions are just the opposite.

I think you are in the distinct minority of the conservative crowd. You are not a hypocrite.

I loathe moral hypocrites. And, yes, I'm judgmental about it and intolerant of it. I'd bet this teacher voted McCain-Palin and still has signs on his car and in his yard; has recited the mantra of personal responsibility and accountability to students and others as he bemoans the demise of America due to "liberal" heathen values; and no doubt is a church-going, "good Christian" as he maps out assassination angles for teenagers, knowing good and well what he was doing.

He knew what he was doing and is probably glad he got caught -- he'll show up on Beck or Hannity soon. He'll probably run for office in Alabama soon.

If I had a national voice, I'd be knocking each and every one of these hypocrites off of their bogus pedestal every time they opened their mouths. I sincerely pray the Rapture is real and these people are lifted away from the Earth. I'll deal with whatever hell remains for people like me -- I feel I've been in hell my whole life with the world full of these hypocrites.
