2. my dad was in the air force but not during wartime. he went to the VA
but didn't feel he was deserving of everything that those who went to war did. he died last year and we could have had a military funeral for him, but he would not have wanted that. i think he felt his service was different than those who went to war.
6. Both my brother and my husband served in the military during the
Vietnam Conflict. Neither actually went to Vietnam--one was in Korea & the other at Guam. However both are considered as Vietnam era vets & entitled to VA services.
my father was the best man to ever have lived. He was honorable and loving and provided for 6 kids and never complained. He died of Leukemia 3 months to the day he was diagnosed. On the day of his official retirement party at work.
14. thank you but he woudl NEVER claim that. HE was an understated man
he worked at an aircraft plant all his adult life (except for the years he was drafted and served)
many times they asked him to be plant/floor lead and he would always turn it down even tho it would have meant more money...and believe me with 6 kids it woudl have been nice....Why did he turn it down?
He didn't want anyone of the guys he worked with to think he thought he was better then them.
The line of cars from the funeral home to the cemetary was HUGE quite a testiment for a quiet family man.
died in 2005. It was only recently I found out his mother worked for a General and pulled strings to keep my dad in the states for the duration. It may have been more of my grandmother, my dad was an only child, but my dad always had what I think was a great appreciation for all those that died in his place.
We were not close but he told me he'd help me get to Canada during Viet Nam. They canceled the draft the year I became eligible - 1972.
I was in the U.S.Airforce from 1952 through 1956. I was still in training in 1953 when the Korean War ended. I am a Korean War veteran by military standards.
