Blumenthal should go
He has a serious character flaw, but it would have been nice if we saw this level of enthusiasm from M$Greedia when George W Bush was lying about his 'service'.
These fuckers didn't even defend their colleague Dan Rather.

7. Where was the indignation
After the Swift Boat Vets for Truth oil bought lies derailed the Kerry campaign? Dick Cheneys five deferrments, Rush's ass cysts.... This is all so ridiculous. hyperbole hyperbole, never real substance.

2. When I saw his statement, he was kind of weaseling out of it. Even saying
he took responsibility, he downplayed it. I just didn't get a good vibe from him.

And you're right -- that fucking media. Well, we have Rachel and Ed and some others now who won't let this crap slide. Only problem is, WE'RE the only ones watching probably. I'm guessing "they" steer clear of MSNBC like we steer clear of FOX.

3. As a Connecticut voter I disagree. We would have to find a last minute candidate.

I am not sure any of them would be better then Blumenthal even with the scandal. I mean, who is Merrick Alpert, the other candidate in the Dem primary? None of my friends and family even know who he is. And Blumenthal has done some very good things for CT, always fighting for consumers against big business. It is up to those of here to decide anyway and I don't want McMahon as my Senator. He actually has an image as a fuddy-duddy ultra serious type of guy, not a lying scumbag. He has been AG since I was in high school and I am 34 now so I have seen a lot of him over the years. Serious character flaws? Go look at how she and Vince ran their company for years.

4. also, the Republican candidate doesn't look like such a winner. Maybe we should

back Blumenthal, and move on.

5. I would honestly rather have Simmons as my Senator then that airhead.
She is trying to buy this election with her millions. But I don't think Rob Simmons (a former Repub rep voted out in 2006) will beat her. She matches up better against Blumenthal too.

11. The only problem with that
is that it sends the message that the truth doesn't matter to us.

I would expect Blumenthal's GOP opponent to pound him into the ground with the Vietnam service issue, and even if Blumenthal survives that and wins the seat, it will dog him for the next six years.

6. Righteous indignation flourishes as always
I'm sorry but to me lying requires a narrative- a story. "I went to Vietnam and boy was it scary. I saw my buddies die and those helicopters were really loud and then Col. Kurtz cut off the chef's head. The horror I tell ya." This guy said in one obscure speech something to the effect of "Things were different when I served in Vietnam" where he should have said "Thing were different when I served DURING Vietnam" and has before and since on numerous occasions said unequivocally that he was in the reserves and did not go to Vietnam. I'm sorry. That's not a narrative. That's not a made up "story" of the facts of what he actually did. That's at worst a sentence which mis-characterizes whether he was deployed by using the wrong word. And maybe it was something he did purposely in that speech. He says not. You make it sound like he made up his life story, not misstated a line in a speech. I'm going to keep defending him because I just don't see a pattern here.

8. Unless I'm missing something I agree with you.
Dr. Dean characterized this as a hatchet job by the NYT. The media is reporting on this like he's been lying over and over again, but I've only seen the clip you describe.

9. The local news here in CT showed the beginning of that speech
where he clearly states that he served during the war. The Huffington Post has an article on it. Interesting that the NYT omitted that.
