CNN showing film of oil in La. wetlands, estuaries.
We are so screwed. CNN reporter along with Gov Jindal checking out large swaths of heavy, black oil washing into wetlands, estuaries. So sad.

According to the report, everything the oil touches will die. Reporter equates damage to "slow moving hurricane".

I cannot understand how anyone could look at what's happening in the Gulf and still think we can continue deep water drilling. It boggles the mind!

2. Maybe Britt Hume should watch.
He asked where all of the oil was on Faux News Sunday.

4. Maybe Brit Hume could help.
He could take that ugly rug off of his head and use it to help mop up the oil. :P

6. CNN still reporting.
Rep. Markey (sp?) just on. Says BP no longer has any credibility, someone else needs to take charge now. I didn't catch the entire statement, but think he was talking about them underestimating the amount of spillage.

7. I doubt BP ever underestimated the amount of the oil gushing.
I absolutely believe they've actively lied about it to mislead the public and their stockholders.

8. Absolutely!
And it would appear that the Govt. is letting them get by with it.

17. With no end in sight.
A new version of Groundhog Day, starring Boris Karloff and Bella Lugosi!

If Washington doesn't get on top of this asap (yesterday), it could end up being Obama's actual Waterloo, no pun intended.

This dispassionate, detached, rather tepid response is NOT serving the President well. Time to take names, kick ass, show some white hot anger!

Obama needs to declare the Gulf a National Disater Area, take the reins, and leave no doubt about who's in charge!

19. As much as I'd cheer him on, I don't see how any of that will actually help.
The government was never equipped to handle a disaster like this. Many people are criticizing Obama for not doing enough, but the sad truth is likely that there is nothing more that can be done right now. The best that can come of this is that is wakes up enough of the American public to cause enough of an outcry against offshore drilling that it gets banned. If we can't deal with the fallout when something goes wrong, then we shouldn't do it.

20. It's about public perception.
Many people (some here on DU) are asking, "Who's in charge, the Govt. or BP?" If that question has to be asked, then the Administration has lost control of the message, thereby allowing the opposition to define it.

What we have here is a FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE, identical to what happened when the Dems in Congress allowed the Republicans control the message on HCR last summer.

I wholeheartedly agree that we should ban the drilling. Our ability to drill in deep water has outstripped our ability to prevent/fix these disasters.

MSNBC is just now reporting that BP has stated the "leak" (gusher) will continue until August when the relief wells are ready. By then, the entire Gulf will be a dead zone.
