Shhhh - We're Not Supposed To Talk About That
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latest-news/marines-probe-recruiter-tactics

...A female recruiter Klock knew only as Sgt. Jones started calling him on his cell phone to see if he would reconsider. Klock said he received approximately 25 calls from the woman between his sophomore and senior year.

The calls from Sgt. Jones were so frequent Klock changed his voicemail message to express that he wasn’t interested in the military.

“My voicemail message states my name and a message that if the caller is a recruiter, I am going to college and that I am not interested in joining the military,” Klock said.

Then, on April 20 at 6:29 p.m., Klock got a call and a message he was not expecting.

“Umm…You are a fag,” it said.

The call location was identified by Klock’s cell phone – it was the recruiter’s office at 3845 Union Deposit Road. The voice, Klock said, was Sgt. Jones...

1. Ironic. If he had told them he was gay, would they have taken him with DADT?

16. Of course. A war is going on. Straight boys are only at risk of weenie looking during peacetime.
They have always suspended the ban during wartime. WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, doesn't matter. After DADT was passed, it entered the public radar, so they had to make the appearance that it was still in use, so they enforce it on a "case by case basis" now.

2. If he's an umm... fag
then you shouldn't be recruiting him. Don't ask, remember?

These abuses need to be reined in.

8. Must be something horrible...I have a friend who told me her step dad signed his son up on the
delayed entry when he was 16. When the kid reached 18 and told them to go to hell, the step dad kicked the kid out, before he graduated high school, 3 months to go.

6. The army/marines etc are getting desperate
Maybe if we ended these stupid, pointless wars, they wouldn't resort to such hardcore recruiting techniques.
I can imagine a new kind of service corp, non military, created to help with problems such as this oil leak, disasters, etc.

17. Stupid, but not pointless---to the Defense contractors. Invasions/occupations, not "wars".

7. I signed the paper for my eldest saying "DO NOT give information to the military", but...
She still got flooded with calls and mail.

My middle daughter is at that point and I sent in the same "do not provide information" sheet. She's ALREADY gotten shit from recruiters, going back at least six months.

We have a standing policy at our house: Any recruiter who approaches the house is to be told to leave under threat of having to speak to the dogs.

I have no problem with the military or people who decide to join, but how clear does "LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE" have to be? Recruiters are setting up shop in mall storefronts and enticing kids in with giveaways, free food, and other methods I find despicable. How about if we just bring our troops home from Bush's wars and then we won't be so short on personnel.

10. I made the mistake of taking the ASVAB in high school.
I didn't even know what it was for--it was just on a list of optional standardized tests that we could sign up to take. I thought it was something like the ACT or PSAT. Got my score back (96) and was DELUGED with calls from the local recruiting office. They wouldn't give up. I finally lied to the guy and told him that I weighed 300 lbs and had kidney problems, just so he'd leave me alone. Then he yelled at me for taking the ASVAB in the first place! Asshole.

:grr:

14. We get junk mail addressed to our son - ALL THE TIME.
I simply dispose of it when I pick up the mail.

He will not see any of it. And if recruiters try to get to him, they'll have to get through ME.

13. Dang. It sounded like a really good idea at the time.
And a lot more sanitary than the Ted Nugent approach.

19. That was the one thing that cheesed me off about my HS years and my parents -
They continually allowed this Army recruiter to visit our house, even though I made it perfectly clear many times that joining the military factored in my life plans somewhere down near smoking crack, starting a drug cartel or robbing banks.

We're talking every three weeks, this guy would either be at my doorstep or visiting me at school. Phone calls were relentless. The U.S. military and schools are in cahoots - they prey on those with low G.P.A.s or lacking in extra-cirriculars.

Thank God I wasn't that susceptible. We're not going to stop the intake by clogging it with kids.
