and now it looks like August before they can stop it. By that time we have the hurricane season, and they're predicting it could possibly be a rough one for us poor souls here in the southeast. Just look at this shit. Click on the live oil spill cam.

1. This could kill the planet
Estimates are going as high as 50,000 barrels a day. The planet is two thirds ocean and this massive oil gusher is getting picked up by the gulf stream and fed into the Atlantic. Somebody needs to do the math and figure a date when this oil "spill" will hit say England and France and then maybe South Africa. Maybe if it continues it will hit Hawaii.

Somebody also needs to do the science and tell us if this massive oil pollution has the potential to shut down the Atlantic Conveyor (ocean current) and plunge us into an immediate ice age.

This is the most terrifying event since the Cuban Missile crisis. In fact, imo, I think it is even more terrifying.

4. I think you mean it wll kill life as we know it, but it won't kill the planet. We will
just destroy the plannet as it is. The planet will survive.
It won't die. it could take
thousands of years, but humans can't kill this planet.

5. Correct
This event would be humanity's answer to the asteroid that hit off the Yucatan and caused the mass extinction of the dinosaurs.

10. I dont believe it will shutoff the conveyor

But if it did, then we would plunge straight into an ice age yes.

However, I think all the oil getting into the belt will do is fuck up just more coastlines.

And who said the United States was not exporting?

I am pissed and sad all at once. Those whacky 'environmentalist whackos' were...right again.

3. Doing the math.

So if it's 13 gallons per second and there's 60 seconds in a minute, that's 780 gallons in minute, or 46,800 forty six thousand eight hundred gallons in an hour.

Now a barrel of oil is 42 gallons, so that's 1114 (one thousand one hundred fourteen) barrels of oil in one hour.

So if they can get 23 gallons of gasoline from every barrel of oil, then the leak is loosing 25,622 (twenty five thousand six hundred and twenty two) gallons of gas in an hour.

Now it seems the US sucks down 16,191,666 (sixteen million, one hundred ninety one thousand, six hundred sixty six) gallons of gasoline in an hour, so this is just a fraction of our regular consumption....

But really, either way, we're doomed.

Just too bad we couldn't take ths gas and fuel a rocket off to another planet or something...but then we'd probably mess that one up too.

9. Even those on the front lines are getting disheartened.
Hubby has been out there for three weeks working with Parish government, watching as miles of detainment books are deployed. He said tempers are getting very short, alot of people are losing hope and just watching and waiting.
