Sometimes Republicans are prescient.

I do not think there should be a limit on the rig's liability, because they are sitting on top of unlimited amounts of oil, and thus, there could be an explosion occur that could do untold damage. ... The amount of damage that an offshore oil rig can do is infinite.

He advocated strict gun control; opposed the death penalty, school prayer, and the gay ban in the military. He was a big supporter of expanding Medicaid and services for the disabled...

this is what people need to understand. The modern GOP would not think of Nixon as one of them... and in many issues, not even sainted Reagan.

6. Goldwater could not be nominated by the Democratic Party today

he'd be where Kucinich is...almost...no lie. I remember his campaign well...other than the War issue, he was a populist by TODAY'S standards and, if memory serves me correctly, the old joke was that "They told me that if I voted for Goldwater, within 6 months there'd be half a million troops in SE Asia...and I did and there WERE!"
