Do YOU have what it takes to be an Arizona State Trooper?

This week, President Obama met with the president of Mexico to discuss, among other things, Arizona's harsh new anti-immigrant law and the surging hostility toward people who appear to be from somewhere else.

Well, if it's high unemployment rates that are driving these anti-immigrant sentiments, have we got good news for you!

... Because Arizona needs new state troopers to help enforce their new law!

1. Very timely

and oddly my cousin got married last year and has since become anti-immigrant. She keeps talking about "protecting America" for her (unborn) child. What's interesting is that she's white, her husband is black. I guess there will always be an "us and them" to politics, though it seems who's "us" and who's "them" is subject to change.

3. The definition of "us" and "them" does change ...

... and I think you're right, that's what freaks people out - on an almost rotational basis. It's all cycles. The face of America doesn't look like it did 20 years ago and people are freaked by that. But the face of America also looked different 40 years ago, 80 years ago and 160 year ago.

2. In all seriousness, my best friend I graduated HS with in WA is now in AZ as a State Trooper..

I'll have to email him and find out his take on this whole thing. Last I heard, he had a child with one of the 9/11 dispatchers. It's been awhile, since I've heard from him. Why not? I'm nostalgic.

5. Arizona doesn't call the state cops "Troopers"

DPS officer or Highway Patrol

counties have sheriffs and deputies
