...into a creek, in front of a cop and see what happens to you (don't really do it).

Which begs the question:

Why aren't there BP Execs in jail right now?

I had a talk with my wife tonight over dinner.

I don't believe that the BP execs should be in jail.

I believe that they should be dancing in the breeze right now. No apologies.

That isn't going to be happening.

Unfortunately we live in a society that is not governed by rash actions or penalties meted out for this sort of horrific dramas. If it was such a society then we would be in an anarchy.

I have no idea what the outcome will be for the BP execs, but I do know that it is a tragedy for the gulf that is still unfolding.

If I really wanted to say what I believed then I would probably be in jail right now.

13. BP CEO on CBS yesterday morning.
They employ "40,000 people in the U.S.", "largest investor in oil and gas in the U.S." and "largest producer in the U.S."

That's probably why. They own us.

Going after them would interrupt that flow and disrupt the war machine which is the only thing propping US capitalism up right now.

In 2009 alone, $3,623,904,862.

10. Not exactly an even comparison.
If I were to crash my bike and as a result a quart of oil contaminated the creek I might expect to be assessed the cost of extracting the bike. I would not expect to be punished unless I were at fault in causing the crash.

Now there is at least some evidence that damage done to the blow out preventer prior to the accident was ignored. And that certain other breaches of regulatory guidelines almost certainly occured and may have contributed to triggering the accident.

And for these reasons, BP most certainly should be investigated, and if it's warranted, charged.

14. Well, as Rand Paul said, it's just an accident and "accidents happen".
Of course, they happen a lot more to people who:

o Don't routinely test their Blowout Preventers.

o Cement their well casing and then don't wait long enough
for the cement to properly set

o Ignore their engineers and don't let Schlumberger run the
scheduled "cement logging" to prove that the cement is all
the places it's supposed to be and in the right (expected)
thicknesses

o Ignore their engineers and pull out the drilling fluid too
soon, replacing it with lighter seawater.

But yeah, "accidents happen".
