"The shit doesn't fall far from the bat."
Bill Maher unloaded on Rand Paul during his monologue on "Real Time" Friday night.

Paul, who won Kentucky's Republican primary just this week, has taken heat for his extreme views. Trying to describe the eye doctor turned Tea Party-favorite, Maher joked that, "It's as if Sarah Palin somehow made it through medical school."

After pointing to some of Paul's views, like his belief that private businesses should be allowed to discriminate, Maher observed, "the shit doesn't fall far from the bat."

Maher can be infuriating. However, he nailed it this time.

2. Interesting. Wasn't there a BBQ place somewhere in SC that hung a bat over the door?
The implied threat, famously known but unstated, was that a black person would be beaten if they dared enter? I think it was Bessinger's.

Though the reason any decent person, of any color, would want to spend money with a racist pig is beyond me.

4. I Believe...
her point is to insinuate that all Southerners are racists...why else would we live here. And why else, would she bring up something that despicable in response to your post. Me? I must be a 'double racist' in the eyes of some DU'ers. I was born in Aiken, SC, and live in Lexington, KY, a double whammy. The fact that I am a very liberal Democrat, and that there are more like me in both states, doesn't seem to matter to some people. Racism is everywhere...think of how prevalent it would be if Southern was a race.

5. We agree.
I was checking with the source for an explanation if I am wrong.

9. I've lived in the South all of my adult life. There is just as much racism up north.
On the other hand...

You're not going to walk into a restaurant and find "quaint" pickaninney art on the walls in a restaurant north of Kentuck...mostly.

The nostalgia for the slavery era is a minority even the south. But it is there. I am glad when businesses are openly racist. They don't get my money.

6. Other than to give a bit of context to the "bat" statement....
...not a whole heck of a lot. I think there might be a few people who might not know the reference Maher was making.

That's pretty much it.

A bit touchy this morning after dealing with that self-righteous Burgess Meredith asshole...ehh?

8. Maher was referencing one person who

learned and espoused the views of his father. Liz and Dick Cheney would be a good reference. Your analogy was very broad and off target IMHO.

Your touchy is my sensitivity to something that I found vague about SC. I'll add touchy to "patterns" and "I know you know better."
