It sure looks like it to me.

Brazen Attacks May Show New Taliban Strategy
May 20, 2010
Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Brazen Taliban attacks in and around Afghanistan's capital Kabul this week demonstrate the power of the insurgency to strike directly at foreign forces on Afghan soil.

A sobered U.S. military is studying whether these Taliban efforts to reach outside their rural home base are part of a new campaign to target NATO forces, foreign diplomats, contractors and Afghan government officials.

The attacks come as the number of U.S. military deaths approach the 1,000 mark, and at a time when Americans are looking for progress in a long and costly war.

A majority of Americans -- 52 percent -- now says the war is not worth it, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. The dip in support follows a brief rise last year after President Obama refocused the U.S. war plan.

A Pentagon spokesman, Bryan Whitman, said it is too soon to say whether the attacks are part of a coordinated Taliban strategy. "I would be cautious about drawing conclusions about two events," Whitman said.

3. The NVA tactics of drawing the enemy (us) in closer, using
continuous attack/withdraw, and inflicting casualties where ever, however and whenever possible. Seems their entire playbook comes from the old Mao dicta, as well as traditional Afghan fighting.

Outside armies NEVER do well in Afghanistan-they suffer losses, expend lives and money for years, depart leaving little change. I remember when the Soviets were there some of the Mujahadin were using old British Enfield rifles. I wonder how long they will be using old American rifles...

There is no point or honor or victory to any of this - get out now and bring everybody home.

Bring ALL US troops out of every other country everywhere.

4. Yes. However,
Edited on Sat May-22-10 07:06 AM by Are_grits_groceries
the American people were much more aware of what was going on. Reporters were there and the fighting and the consequences weren't one column or one short broadcast.

Americans today don't have the info right in their faces. Many don't take the time to follow what is going on. The first is a deliberate strategy IMHO. The second is unforgivable ignorance and apathy about TWO WARS that are killing soldiers and civilians on both sides.

Even if they agree with the strategy and know the way the war is going, at least they would be acting with some knowledge about the reality of the situation.

5. Vietnamistan - Daniel Ellsberg calls it
Daniel Ellsberg:You’re talking about a country, like Vietnam, that has 2,000 years of a tradition, and not just of self-image, but of actual success, in ejecting foreign invaders. They aren’t organized for much there. You could say it’s a state of disorganization, valley by valley and tribe by tribe. They’re ideally organized for ejecting control by foreigners, and even control by a central government—that’s somewhat unlike Vietnam

6. a foreign power is militarily supporting a deeply corrupt regime in the name of holding a nefarious
threat at bay? and both side are terrorizing the populace to impose their control? yeah, we've seen this senario before. the invaders lost, and it will happen again.

contrary to the claims of the US govt and the Big Fans, seems clear the insurgency enjoy a good measure of support to be able to pull off these attacks.
