Wonder why the rethugs NEVER claim THIS part of Lincoln's heritage...

http://www.ratical.org/corporations/Lincoln.html

Here is a sobering quote by Abe Lincoln:

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."
-- U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864
(letter to Col. William F. Elkins)
Ref: The Lincoln Encyclopedia, Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950, NY)

Think we'll see this in a Texas schoolbook?

Got this from my morning crossword puzzle!!!

3. Um - they don't claim any part of Lincoln's heritage.
Today's Rebagnutter Party is the inbred offspring of the marriage of Joe McCarthy's far-right populist Republicanism with Dixiecrat southern racist wing of the Democratic Party.

Lincoln? Who dat?

4. You Rarely Hear Them Mention Teddy Roosevelt Either...
I had a good laugh when I brought that name up to a wingnut. His spin on Lincoln was that he really didn't want to end slavery but was forced into it as a condition to make it appear the war had a purpose (in the North) and that the South was within its rights to seceede as the North was trying to economically suffocate it and made matters worse during Reconstruction. Not different than the position Paulbot Jr. takes.

Bring up Roosevelt and once you get past the Rough Riders and "Big Stick" and you bring up trust busting and he goes down the memory hole in a hurry.

One byproduct of the rushpublican party going off the political abyss is its inability to square its own history. Democrats can stand with pride that our party did root out the segregationists and opened the doors to all...no matter what color, sex, orientation or ethnicity. Inversely, the rushpublicans went from a party of justice to one of repression and regression. Watching John Fund try to tie the modern day GOOP racism to Robert Byrd from 50 plus years ago shows how tangled they are in their denial.

5. Lincoln was a raging socialist before there was socialism
"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. "

--Abraham Lincoln
