Big Oil & Conflicts of Interest: Obama Owns This Mess
Big Oil & Conflicts of Interest: Obama Owns This Mess
Troubled chickens come home to roost
by Derrick Z. Jackson
May 22, 2010

There was a time that the Obama administration could say it inherited a mess. But now, having approved hundreds of drilling and seismic blasting plans without full environmental reviews, according to the New York Times, it owns this mess. Last month, the Interior Department's inspector general office said Interior "has never had and currently operates without a scientific integrity policy.''

The Times reported yesterday that the Texas laboratory that the government is using to analyze the impact of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is also employed by BP. Salazar and Obama have a long way to go to eliminate the reality and perception of conflict of interest.

11. Facts?
Edited on Sat May-22-10 09:17 PM by ProSense
■ The bureau's conflicting roles and relationships with the energy industry disagreements.

■ A working environment in which poor communication or no communication compounded an already existing element of distrust.

■ A Band-Aid approach to holding together one of the federal government's largest revenue producing operations.

What facts?

Want facts: here

more

MSM bullshit spin is not fact.

13. LOL- facts as laid out quite clearly that any HONEST person can see
The problems with the agency were well known and weren't dealt with prior to the incident- and weren't dealt with prior to Obama advocating more drilling off the coast and asserting (despite glaring evidence to the contrary) that it was safe.

2. It doesn't matter a damned bit. Not a bit. We have to stop this oil gusher.
Edited on Sat May-22-10 08:49 PM by NYC_SKP
WE OWN IT!

Right now, we have to stop this leak.

That is ALL that matters.

Edited to add this graphic of the MESS that's been building since 1948:

... and Carville parsed it brilliantly:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/21/obama-faces-new-wave-of-c_n_585620.html

This could very well put a Republican in the White House in 2012. Those not sharing that perspective, are just whistling past the oil slick.

The obvious casual interest and actual impotence of the administration for the last thirty days is beyond deplorable. It is criminal to those of us in the immediate proximity of this "royal" fuck up.

They have bowed to BP far too long in this crisis. In the first week, they should have done that which has been state of the art globally for many years: stuff enough explosives in that pipe and close it down.

Instead, we will all be living with this catastrophe for decades to come.

As someone in Florida who proudly had two Obama yard signs out for ten months before the election and for the two months after - until the day he was sworn in, I am just fucking pissed and sick over this entire thing. Just sick.

Thanks, Rahm and Barack. Thanks.

9. I don't think there will be a GOP whitehouse in 2012. I think America is ready
for a third party Whitehouse. People are waking up and they are every bit as pissed as you and I. They know that the two party system has failed; BOTH belong to the corporate feudal overlords.

14. Your suggestion is well taken....
Edited on Sat May-22-10 09:46 PM by TeaBagsAreForCups
...these are truly very erratic and highly charged moments in the body politic where such could become a reality. And I do accept that the Republican party is not walking, but running, to the deep end of the crazy pool, that even dirt dumb America has woken to the stupidity of putting them back in control.

But as much as I hate the thought, if the GOP somehow manages to do an abrupt UTurn and nominate someone like Romney, that blow-dried, hypocritical chameleon - secondary solely to perceived charm and being very "camera ready," he just might just prevail over an Obama presidency that fucks up this most singular man made disaster that will have profound ecological payback for decades to come.

Thanks.

... just look at the "quality" of the comments of those that challenge your original, insightful post and what do we find?

1. one phrase drive-bys of "delusional" and "bullshit":
2. an LOL or two, or a "blithering" or two, all with nary a moment of meaningful or thoughtful comment;
3. dismissive "like i care..." posts attacking you and pointedly not addressing the points of your post or argument;
4. paranoia that those of us that do support the hypothesis of your post are part of "there" (sic) being all around in here tonight.

Tragic. Sometimes this place gives that cesspool "Free" "Republic" a run for its money in idiocy, free range anger, and nastiness sans anything meaningful.
