Barron's advises the trust-fund set on fending off the new health-care taxes
Fending Off Health Taxes
You may soon be paying $30,000 more in taxes, thanks to the health-care law.

SAY WHAT YOU MAY ABOUT THE NEW health-care law, it won't be cheap for high-net-worth taxpayers. The law's $250 billion in tax hikes for individuals are aimed squarely at big earners.

If you're in the top 1% of taxpayers, meaning your annual earnings are $624,000 or higher, you're apt to see a $28,500 jump in annual federal taxes, according to the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center in Washington.

That's because folks in the top 1% will foot 85% of the bill's most onerous tax provisions: two increases in Medicare taxes. They will also see Uncle Sam skim more off investment gains and off income generated by trusts they have created for beneficiaries...

Here is a look at the two provisions that will have the biggest effect on high-net-worth taxpayers, along with some strategies to lessen the blow.
