Vandals Slash $18K Of Oil Disaster Equipment

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Vandals have slashed hundreds of feet of booms in Pensacola, rendering them useless in soaking up oil from the massive Gulf spill.

Escambia County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Ted Roy said the suspects likely used a boat to access the booms and then sliced a roughly 600-foot stretch with a razor blade or box cutter.

The suspects face felony criminal mischief charges for destroying the booms, which are worth about $18,000.
