Georgia finally does something about zero-tolerance at schools.
Now we have to depend on the school administrators using their discretion and judgment instead of mindlessly following rules unproductively.

By The Associated Press

ATLANTA — Gov. Sonny Perdue has signed legislation amending Georgia's zero-tolerance policy on weapons in schools.

The measure the governor signed on Tuesday gives principals and school systems more discretion in handling disciplinary cases. It was sponsored by Sen. Emanuel Jones, D-Decatur.

Jones says he drafted the bill after hearing the story of Eli Mohone, who was arrested and kicked out of school after turning himself in for accidentally bringing a fishing knife to school.

1. I do not approve of zero tolerance policies
On the other hand, school administrators are some of the dumbest people I have ever met.

2. That's because you only hear about the ones who do dumb shit
I don't know any myself but with tens of thousands of schools across the country, there are a lot of administrators out there and most of them go about doing their jobs with varying degrees of success. The MSM finds the worst case scenarios and talks about those...usually for hours or days at a time.

4. First step to mandating that students carry guns into school. It is Georgia, after all.
Of course, they will continue to enforce their z-t policy for "certain" students (i.e., fishin' knife is OK in Baggerville, but scissors are not in "urban" schools).
