To all the "don't try to scare me with President Palin" types
Ok, I do get you. I voted for Obama because I did not want Clinton era lurching to the right, and we are getting Clinton era lurching. I can agree that Obama has gotten me angry.

But there is where I ask you how you would swing the country from going between the right and the center. As is, we know that the right still has a hold on the culture, and we know that many in the middle are scared enough of "socialism" that they can be spooked, so I ask you, how in 2012 can you actually shift the country so that it will actually lean leftward? Specifics desired.

1. Show the country what the actual implementation of left-leaning ideas provide.
Obama is called a far-left communist-socialist by the right no matter what. That seems to me to provide a mandate for at least one actual liberal idea to squeeze through.

3. Not possible with filibuster threats and Blue Dog Dems who wont vote for "left leaning" legislation.
You need to get rid for most, if not all of the conservative Dems before you would have any chance of implementing what you suggest.

5. How about this ????
1. America has been highjacked by special interests, corporations having "free speech" rights, etc.

2. We can take America back, without bloodshed or great human suffering simply by applying the Constitution.

3. Our candidates will take an Oath that a) we'll ban "corporate free speech" and b) we'll pass term limit and other anti-corruption legislation to hold future elected officials accountable.

6. Find me one figure in history who ever changed a country by being "pragmatic" and fearful?
People just don't work that way. Most people have to be *lead*.

7. OK, to ask the question
how in 2012 can you shift the country leftward so that it will lean that way. I ask because of this, until the country leans leftward, the centrists and far right will win, and frankly, idealism is nice, but we need something to actually WORK at this point in the game.

9. The "Clinton era lurching to the right" is on target w/the current, all planned/strategic
To suggest that the last several admins over the past few decades have all governed in ways that, gee, golly, gosh, just happened to yield the exact same rightward, police state-leaning results by 'accident' or mere happenstance is antithetical to Occam's razor.

10. I don't know what I specifically can do. I've been trying for years.
Just get us a majority they said, and THEN we can really get things done.

So we did.

Just get us a super majority and THEN we can really get things done.

So we did.

Just get us the white House and THEN we can REALLY get things done.

So we did.

In return, they have lurched more and more to the right specifically shitting all over many of the grass roots groups who worked so hard for them.

So to answer your question, I just don't know what more we can do. However, I do know I will no longer be used and then shit on by these people. No more money, no more labor. I will save that for local candidates whom I know have the same values as I do. They have no one to blame but themselves because I am pretty sure I am not alone in these feelings.
