MSNBC (2006) - "Congress approves offshore drilling bill" Sponsored By Bobby Jindal
“There has never been a challenge that the American people, with as little interference as possible by the federal government, cannot handle.”

Bobby Jindal, March 24, 2009

It is so odd how the media is giving Jindal a free platform to complain about the damage caused to his state by offshore oil drilling, as well as demand billions in federal dollars, without asking Jindal whether he has changed his mind.

WASHINGTON - Hours before adjourning for the year, the U.S. Congress on Saturday sent President George W. Bush legislation that would open 8.3 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico to oil and natural gas drilling and redistribute billions of dollars in royalties to four Gulf states.

The drilling measure was wrapped into a broad tax and trade package that the U.S. Senate approved by a 79-9 vote, hours after the House of Representatives approved it.

Rep. Bobby Jindal, a Louisiana Republican and one of the drilling measure's main supporters, said Bush will sign the bill into law.

The offshore legislation ends a 25-year ban on drilling in deep waters about 125 miles south of Florida's Panhandle, but extends a moratorium on drilling in other Florida waters until 2022.

6. Is it hypocrisy? Or, Are Republicans Simply Blind To Their Own Responsibility?
In listening to Bobby Jindal blame everyone else for the damage caused to his state, perhaps he truly believes that there is no connection between his longtime support of deepwater oil drilling, and the disaster that is threatening the economy and environment of his own state. If gulf state politicians fed by oil industry contributions were not greasing the skids for offshore oil drilling in gulf states, would we have the current disaster?

Look at California. Even Republicans have generally been hostile to offshore oil drilling in California, thus the pace of development of California's offshore oil reserves trails that of the gulf states, and Californians should be thankful.

3. and redistribute billions of dollars in royalties to four Gulf states.
I see why they were so adamant about turning down the stimulus money now. The stimulus money was chump change compared to what they were getting from big oil.

They chose to deal with the devil.

4. Bump In Light Of Thread On Jindal Asking For More Government Help
Shouldn't Jindal be asking himself the question of why there is not more government help for this disaster that he helped set the stage for.

8. Here Is A Link To The Newest Puff Piece On Jindal Praising His Hypocrisy
Of course, this New Republic story does not even mention Jindal's sponsorship of the bill ending the drilling moratorium.
