Israeli ambassador on CNN is trying to link Turkish group to Al Qaida.
And also says Israel offered to take the supplies from the group to Gaza. He's also trying to paint the group as being the aggressors.

"If this group really cared about the humanitarian issues in Gaza they would have tranferred the supplies to us (Israel)."

IMO, the U.S. needs to treat Israel the exact same way as it did Iran, Iraq, and any other rogue nation that acts without provocation.

34. They've all been taken to the port of Haifa
(or Ashdod, as the initial reports said), and from there they are being taken to a high-security prison in Beersheba (latest from Al Jazeera). Who knows when they will be released.

I know at least one person onboard one of those ships too, a tireless young British/Polish activist Ewa Jasiewicz. She is scheduled to speak in my city here in Poland in about three weeks.

I'm worried sick for all of them.

12. Frak that they attacked a US Flagged ship!
...The convoy includes the “Mavi Marmara,” a large Turkish-flagged passenger vessel with about 600 people on board, two cargo ships and three other boats.

Two other boats are also Turkish-flagged, while another two are Greek and one more is from the United States.

A seventh ship, the 1,200-tonne “Rachel Corrie,” named after an American who was crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer in Gaza in 2003, was en route from Ireland to join the flotilla... http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100531/FOREIGN/705319968/1001

15. From an excellent FAQ
...Cargo

According to organisers, the ships were carrying about 10,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including medical aid, food, clothing, prefabricated homes, children’s playgrounds, stationery items, iron bars and cement.

“There is not even a razor, knife or jackknife on board,” one of the organisers said, referring to the non-threatening nature of the cargo... http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100531/FOREIGN/705319968/1001

36. Yes! That ship was bought an an auction and donated
to the Free Gaza movement. Read about how it happened here:
http://www.freegaza.org/en/home/56-news/1164-introducing-the-mv-rachel-corrie

Apparently the ship was named with permission of Rachel Corrie's parents.

And I wouldn't kick at a recall of diplomats, either.

But I guess it depends on what Turkey wants to do, given NATO.

19. This is sick.
Israel sure doesn't care about how it is perceived does it? I haven't been keeping up with this situation so I admit I am stunned at what they have been doing.

They want sympathy from the holocaust to live on forever but they are replacing that with other sentiments. They need to be careful or all that suffering will only have a worse legacy...that of more cruelty. The persecuted become the persecutors. .

You want the US to attack Israel?

I am still wondering why this group didn't transfer their aid across approved ground routes. Was this more of a publicity stunt with boats full of activists than a real humanitarian mission?

33. I think the U.S. reaction is pretty much dictated by NATO.
Did I say I favored a military response? Sanctions and diplomatic response at the very least is called for here. I'm tired of Israel's attitude that it can do whatever the fuck it wants, with no ramifications.

And what makes you think the supplies would have gotten through by ground routes?
