Why can't we all have the opportunity to volunteer to help with the oil spill?

Why can't we all have the opportunity to volunteer to help with the oil spill?
Volunteer... I would use vacation time I have saved up to do this. But it would be awesome if we could bus all of us who need jobs down there, minimum wage, to clean it up?

that the person will never reveal what they see...and even then....they simply do not really give a flying f**k about cleaning up the oil spill except to the extent that might help their PR.

2. A couple of thoughts
First, be careful what you wish for. I suspect there's a high possibility that's the sort of minimum wage job that can end up giving you chronic illness or worse.

Second, if it was a paying job, I think there's something wrong in busing in out of towners to clean up instead of giving priority to the local population. Their tragedy isn't a time for out-of-towners to swoop in to profit from it.

I volunteered some after Katrina, but in retrospect it may have been a self-centered thing. My travel costs might have been put to better use by just having the local organization use that money to pay an unemployed local who needed the money to do the work I did as a volunteer.
