Female SC gov hopeful denies claim of 2nd affair

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina lobbyist resigned from a rival political campaign on Wednesday and then became the second man to claim he had a tryst with a Republican lawmaker trying to become the state's first female governor.

Lobbyist Larry Marchant admitted he had no proof to back up his allegation of a one-night stand with state Rep. Nikki Haley in 2008 and her campaign vehemently denied the allegation. The claim became the latest political drama for a state that was roiled when Gov. Mark Sanford made a tearful confession last summer to sneaking out of the country to rendezvous with an Argentine woman.

Earlier in the day, Marchant resigned from the campaign of Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, who is competing with Haley for the GOP nomination in the June 8 primary.

"This is a false and outrageous desperate attack from a losing candidate's paid campaign consultant in the final week of the race," Haley campaign manager Tim Pearson said in a statement.

2. The SC Chamber of Commerce really needs to capitalize on this.
Come to South Carolina and get lucky!

There's a reason they call it the AppaLAYchian Trail!

4. If this isn't true this will be one of the most disgusting misogynist slanders ever
They're basically saying, "Don't vote for her, she's a whorish slut."

If the trysts are true then they are true but to attack a woman's sexuality just to destroy her for political gain is despicable.

5. You'd have a point if she wasn't married
but she is so now two men have come along and admitted to committing adultery with her. Nobody would care if she was having hot monkey sex with her husband or wasn't married.

7. You are correct: If the allegations are true
I can't say those making the confessions give me confidence.

I'm also curious about what her husband says/believes the case may be.

6. But if she was a man we would toss all that out the door
If anything she is being treated the same exact way a man would have been treated.

16. Yes, it is very hard to believe a family values Republican Lawmaker would have an affair
Right?

(You do have a point though - time will tell if there is anything to this)

12. She sounds like a very confused politician
If you take money from a lobbyist you don't have to "do" them....or maybe she's a candidate for sex addiction rehab.

20. She's probably left a lot of people confused about her relationships.
I'm thinking of her husband, but she could have other love interests too if she's that much of a bunny. Hope she used protection (for the whole group's sake).

14. I'll be honest, if this is true it makes me suspect even moreso that Palin cheated on her hubby too
Think about it, here is a woman candidate that is enthusiastically endorsed by Sarah Palin, someone who also had innuendos that she cheated on her husband with a business partner. (National Enquirer reported it and let's face it - they were right about John Edwards too).

The comments made by Haley sound like something straight out of the Palin playbook. Deny the charges and show disgust that the press would DARE go after a woman. A woman can't get a break in politics and therefore people result to such cheap tactics to bring her down.

Palin is probably coaching Haley thru this mess because she has been thru it too and the press backed down.

If it turns out that Haley did cheat, it only strengthens my opinion that Palin probably cheated too.

I'm sure there is plenty more we don't know about the Palin cheating claims that they're just holding on to in case she runs for Pres.
