If Laura Bush moved out of the WH and has taken up residence at
the Hays, don't you think the public should be informed??? If this were Hillary leaving Bill after the "troubles" it would be a front page, 24/7 media hawking the likes Nicole and Paris couldn't imagine. I'm not asking this for the purposes of gossip, I want to know if the President of the United States is drinking to the point where he is unable to tend to the duties of the Office. Laura appears, at least to me, as a dependable "stick with it through good times and bad" type person. Things must be pretty bad if she has moved out. I absolutely do not want to spread rumors, but I've seen this item around for the last month or so. I realize it is none of our business as to their personal life and I don't care about that. I want to know how impaired he is and is removing him from office a necessity. Just asking....

15. You don't believe the public should know when the pResident is under intense stress?
A break up of a marriage is extremely stressful. It often cause people to do irrational things. You don't think the people should know? I think if true it should be call for a temporary cessation of Presidency. Like Medical leave or some such. He would not be thinking rationally and that is the people's business

17. Couples split every day without going insane or becoming irrational.
Bush is already irrational so I doubt there would even be a noticable difference. If anything, he might be so distracted by Laura's leaving that he'd neglect decimate a government agency or department somewhere.

Would you similarly want a president to step down if a Democrat's spouse moved out?

22. Yes I would
I remember West Wing did a show about the first daughter being kidnapped. The President stepped down for the exact same reason. I know it was only a TV show but the wisdom was there anyway. We do not want somebody in the position to press the button that is mentally unstable even if only temporarily.

that got picked up by an american gossip columnist. There's no truth to the rumor.

However, I DO have it on good authority that Jenna Bush is dating Batboy.

7. If he's drinking, we need to know!!
It is every bit our business that we know! He is an admitted alcoholic! If that information comes by the way of his personal relations with his wife, so be it. We cannot shield him because of that.

I have nothing against alcoholics... it's a hard life... but I don't want one as my brain surgeon and I certainly don't want one as my president! Alcoholics cannot control themselves! What if he gets pissed (meaning both drunk and mad) and does something heinous?

On the other hand... are there rules of impeachment concerning mental illness?

23. The 25th Amendment (ratified 10Feb1967) Section 3:
"Whenever the President transmits to the president Pro Tempore of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President."

Article II section 2 was abridged by the 25th Amendment where in the original document There are several stipulations as to the tests of whether a President was capable of discharging his duties and powers. Between the two, this would easily become a Supreme Court Decision.

As the Constitution stands on impeachment, that can only be initiated by, treason, bribery or high crimes and mideanors, none of those answer your question...:(

29. It just means that the Supreme Court would have to render a
decision on the matter. If it could be shown that a president was incapable of performing his duties to mental illness, addiction, or another medical condition, I can see where the USSC would side on caution, and at least temporarily remove a president that shows incapacity.

There is a lot at stake here, bush still has the control of the "football", and his powers under the Constitution require someone of a demeanor that ensures rational decision making. The 25th Amendment supplemented Article 2, I'm not sure it negated all of the provisions...that would be up to the USSC.

What if he were incapable of signing a written declaration, say he had a stoke? Being under chemical influence could be considered a medical condition that precedes a written declaration...once again back to the USSC...:(

It all goes to the Supreme Court, but they would be very quick in rendering an opinion, as to remain silent for very long w/the public thinking the president might not be mentally capable of discharging his duties.

13. Laura the Enabler
If he is drinking or is so wacko that she can't live with him than she has the DUTY to the country to see to it that he resigns or is impeached. She has been an enabler since day one as she of all people knows he is not fit to be President.

19. I really doubt she has moved out
because I think we'd know about it - you're right about Secret Service, etc. It would be much easier for her to just live in one of the other White House bedrooms. That's what Bill and Hillary did after she found out about Monica.

I actually think ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING they do is our business while they occupy the White House.

32. I doubt she's left him. Too difficult to do, too difficult for extra security,
and there are plenty of extra rooms in the residence to keep it private if there is a separation.

But I bet he's drinking or taking prescribed drugs to keep him working.
