Links to help people and wildlife harmed by the BP catastrophe
Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 07:19 PM by Mimosa
I'm lucky to know of two orgs which have positive reputations for helping people and wildlife in the South Louisiana and Mississippi areas.

http://www.audubon.org/

And Catholic Relief Services will help people out of work, like the fishing communities. Here's a link to the Diocese in the afflicted community, Houma/Terrebonne. The Bishop's fund to help people who are losing their jobs because of the spill also happens to take PayPal.

And last but not least the wonderful Audubon Zoo runs the primary responder program to rescue Sea Turtles and marine mammals:

I do not believe BP will help people or wildlife to the extent necessary. I believe they will find a way to evade paying for the losses to people's livelihoods. The ecology they can never repair.

Please feel free to spread the love all over the internet. (Copy below)

The Audubon Org is reputable.

And last but not least:

Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program (LMMSTRP)

Coordinated by Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, LMMSTRP is the primary responder for the state of Louisiana for rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing marine mammals (dolphins, whales and manatees) and sea turtles. Audubon and LMMSTRP are collaborating with NOAA, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the U.S. Coast Guard to ensure that we have the most up to date information about the direction of the oil spill and any possible animals in its path.

When a call comes in for a distressed sea turtle or marine mammal, the Audubon team will retrieve the animal and bring it back to Audubon Aquatic Center for assesment and treatment. It is anticipated that the greatest number of animals affected will be sea turtles as the Kemps Ridley species is currently migrating to the beaches of Mexico to nest.
