I need an answer if you please
i have been watching the whole BP clusterfuck
i keep hearing the different plans they hatch
i always notice they always end "and BP takes the oil and gets back to business"
why does every plan they have tried have as its final priority to get the oil?
why has not one plan been set forth that just sends a giant robot pair of pliers and squish that pipe shut?
every plan ends with "and BP lives happily ever after"
can anyone tell me of any plans in motion that just shut off the oil without giving a damn about what BP gets?
this crap is gonna start squishing up on my side of florida soon and i want it squished the hell shut

1. BP is in it for the money...Plain and simple. That's it.
I think this is why they haven't been more aggressive about sealing off the pipe.

They know if they succeed in stopping the horrible gush that they also lose the money they could have made off the oil.

This is my take on the whole fucking mess.

5. i think they see it as a cost effectiveness issue
right now they are drilling 2 relief wells that will stop the whole problem but that gets done in august
i have to feel they weighed the cost of stopping it against the costs of letting it go and letting it go won

2. That's what Top Kill and Junk Shot would have done
those plans would have ended with cement being poured down the well and shutting it.

It didn't work.

3. My own plan involves something on the order of--
all the assets of BP get sold off to pay for restitution. The executives of the company are left borderline destitute, and have the BP logo tattooed on their persons in a visible spot. They are made to carry bells to announce their comings and goings, so that people might jeer at them.

I am probably kidding. Probably.

4. If you think squishing the pipe shut will solve this, you are frankly
squishy. Sorry, couldn't resist. The psi of the oil spewing won't allow just squishing the pipe shut.

You live there, and this is your reality?

15. and those highly paid experts at BP have done a heckuva a job in the meantime with their genius
resolutions to solving the crisis. Pressure level or not, everyone with a brain cell functioning knows that BP wants to recover the oil and keep the hole open, as it will help them recuperate their losses much quicker. They are vile and don't care about the environment, so perhaps, a post like #1 would be more apropos to someone who's rightfully frustrated instead of seeing the sarcastic CRAZY EYES being typed up at those who are going to be effected by this soon.

That's what's

Did you vote for Jeb Bush for Governor? Did you care when Katherine Harris certified the vote for George Bush in Florida? It seems after the final count was done, Gore had won Florida, but he never became President, although he probably would have stopped this before it happened. Did you care? When the OILigarchy got back the White House and Congress through election cheating, did you care?

Book 24 of the Iliad. The very last line.

In our day, it should be known as it's done because you didn't see the Trojan horse.

11. The purpose of the two relief wells is to permantly close the field.
It's the only way to get it done.

12. Apparently experts do not think the BOP on top of the well could handle the pressure
If the flow were cut off. This is according to people in the industry over on The Oil Drum forum - http://www.theoildrum.com Go over there and read a few dozen of the threads and look for the posts about the stresses that thing has been under, starting with the original explosion. No, starting with the fact that it was not working up to par or this who mess wouldn't have happened!

According to those guys, if the BOP really cannot take additional stress which would be caused by attempting to seal the well, the whole thing could blow off the top of the well, leaving absolutely no way to restrain the flow until the so-called relief well is finished. And there is reasonable cause to think that the BOP is restricting the flow to a certain extent, so if it goes the flow will be a lot more.

There is also suspicion that the well casing is damaged and oil is leaking into the rock layers underneath. More pressure could drive oil out through those routes, adding more leaks and possibly making it impossible to stop even with the relief well. The relief well will be used to pump the kill mud in from the bottom - but if the mud cannot fill the bore and stop the flow because there are numerous cracks, it cannot work.
