More bad news for Mark Lakers, Nebraska’s Democratic nominee for governor.
Another leading Democrat, Chuck Hassebrook, called on Lakers to withdraw from the race. Hassebrook, a member of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, said Friday that the Omaha investment banker lacks the "integrity" to be governor.
Hassebrook’s comments came a day after Anne Boyle, a former chairwoman of the Nebraska Democratic Party, called on Lakers’ to withdraw.
"He is not worthy of the honor of being a candidate or worthy of being a public official," said Hassebrook, who also serves as executive director of the Center for Rural Affairs.
Lakers has come under fire for filing a campaign finance report with questionable pledges of donations. Several businesses and people his campaign had listed as promising to donate have come forward to say they made no such pledges.
Attorney General Jon Bruning, a Republican, is investigating. It is a felony to knowingly file a false report.
