Have you ever really trusted someone because of their political
and/or ethical views, when meeting on a forum like DU? HAve you taken it further?
For the record, I have, wholeheartedly, and never regretted the people I have met.

1. Do you mean, did I ever trust a stranger solely on the basis of that person's agreement
with my politics?

Well, I suppose I have, although I'm not sure I'd loan them my car or my debit card.

I have found friends through politics, but trust is something it takes me awhile to give to anybody I don't know.

2. ken sounds right
i have to agree with ken. i have good friends who agree with my politics and other who think totally differently. i also have enemies on both sides. friendship depends on alot more important things than political views.

3. Hmmm. I've slept with complete strangers because of politics
- went to DC in Jan 07, had 3 roomies, loved them all, and slept with one of them.

6. met an ex-DUer for dinner
in Montreal last summer (he was travelling, we travelled there to get together). Had a great time. I trusted him completely, e.g. with my personal info, before meeting.

Several people I'd met on line trusted me -- when I had to drive to Florida 4 years ago, we stayed overnight in DC and Baltimore on the way down and back with two of the women I'd met some time before, when we were all fighting the good fight (and entertaining ourselves mightily) at a variety of anti-choice hangouts on the net. Had dinner with another two, separately, in North Carolina, one man one woman, who had also met each other a while before.

And heck, I met the co-vivant through an on-line personals site 8 years ago. He answered my (very political) blurb, I was tired of the thing by then, I said "send me your thoughts on Kosovo", he did, here we are.

I am absolutely mum about identifying-type personal info in public on the net (having been seriously and threateningly stalked on-line by one of the more unpleasant denizens of those anti-choice hangouts), but there are all sorts of people I've met anonymously, including at DU, whom I would not hesitate to trust that way. Politics of some sort has been the initial connection. Which doesn't mean I'd trust everybody I perceived as politically compatible; there are still nutters out there. ;)

9. Thank you for sharing your personal experience, iverglas!
I'd never been involved in a 'blog', or an atmosphere like this in any way, so I was/am learning, though common sense goes a long way. And I have learned a lot.

15. Yes! I think it might be sooner than we'd both want, but there it is.
People like you made/make it worthwhile. We are on the same page and want/demand! the same thing-an end to this bullshit 'occupation'.
You gave us all strength by coming from AK; never discount that, we bragged about you, often!

Hugs to you!

people who are like minded in politics are no more trustworthy than the general population at large. x(
