FBI joins search for Oregon second-grader who disappeared from school

The FBI has joined the search for a 7-year-old Portland boy who disappeared sometime after his stepmother dropped him off inside his elementary school on Friday, The Oregonian reports.

Kyron Horman, who is described as a timid, dreamy second-grader, was last seen by his stepmother walking down a hallway at Skyline elementary school at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, KGW TV reports.

Authorities say a student saw Kyron later that morning, but that teachers simply listed him as absent.

I've got a daughter in second grade and this is my worst nightmare.

Faux and others tell us just the opposite.

My neices attend school in rural Oregon. There is usually a call to their house by 9AM if they aren't in class.

My kids attend substantially larger schools here in California. If they aren't in class, I can expect a robodialed announcement informing me of my childs absence and the importance of regular attendance at some point within 48 hours of their missing school.
