I would like to thank the Cousteau family
I was born in 1963 and grew up watching Jacques Cousteau's specials on tv. My mom even had one of Jacques's books which I was fascinated with. As a child my fantasies involved working on the Calypso, diving and researching with the Cousteau family. As a result I grew up with a very deep love and respect for the oceans. Marine life became very personal to me, I felt like I was at home when watching/reading about life in the oceans. Life often gets in the way of someone's dreams, and becoming pregnant in high school certainly limited where I would go and the life that I would live. But the love for the oceans never left me and at least I did become a diver and was able to dive a reef in Guam.

I want to thank the Cousteau family for all of their work, for sharing the beauty and mysteries of the seas. I never wanted to be an astronaut and travel to outer-space. Because of the Cousteaus I knew that we had a completely unexplored frontier here on this planet that was far more beautiful and rich than anything that space could offer.

I am beyond angry and sad at what we as the human race are doing to our oceans. It hurts almost as much as if you were to attack me personally--maybe more.

1. They are great!
I watched those specials too. PBS was great back then. Carl Sagan, Masterpiece theatre and Jacques Cousteau.

Grandson Phillipe is hunky too. :(

4. Phillipe is hunky (Mmmm)
Yet my memories are filled with the leathery-skinned crew of the Calypso. I still want to be one of them.

3. I second everything you said. I also was fascinated by Jaques Cousteau's
adventures. I too fantasized about adventures on the Calypso. =)

6. The most favorite model I ever built

was the Calypso. In fact I bought it twice just to get it right.

ON edit- yeah it's cheesy, but I love the song-Calypso.

10. "To live on the land we must learn from the sea"
Nothing cheesy about that song. I haven't heard it for a long time. The video was perfect, thanks for posting.
