Cheney Makes Unannounced Visit to Iraq - Is the WH trying to kill him off?
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney got a first-hand briefing on conditions in Iraq and the effectiveness of the U.S. military buildup on Wednesday from the top U.S. commander in Iraq in an unscheduled visit intended to press Iraqi leaders to do more to achieve reconciliation among factions.

"There's a lot going on. This is a very important time. There's a lot to talk about," Cheney said as he met with Gen. David Petraeus and the new U.S. ambassador here, Ryan Crocker.

Petraeus said recently that conditions in Iraq may get harder before they get easier and will require "an enormous commitment" over time by the United States.

Cheney made Iraq the first stop on a weeklong tour of the Middle East that will also include stops in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan. The stop had not been announced publicly.

The last time Cheney went overseas, he ended up in the hospital.

4. Cheney is spending taxpayer dollars for a political stunt
Cheney is trying to improve a bad political position by spending tons of taxpayer dollars to make an appearance for the press. He should either stay home and save us all some money, or stay in Baghdad and just never come back to the USA.

10. Plus the small hospital and tag along at about 50 people.
Like the old Czars who moved every one to the Summer Palace, Winter Palace and all the trapping of a royal court. Our country should hang its head in shame.

7. There are easier ways to knock him off, if that was the plan.
Hell, Bush could just order him to run up and down the stairs at the Washington Momument a couple of times. Or just play "hide the crash cart" with him.

Majority of Iraqi Lawmakers Now Reject Occupation

By Raed Jarrar and Joshua Holland, AlterNet. Posted May 9, 2007.

More than half of the members of Iraq's parliament rejected for the first time on Tuesday the continuing occupation of their country. The U.S. media ignored the story.

On Tuesday, without note in the U.S. media, more than half of the members of Iraq's parliament rejected the continuing occupation of their country. 144 lawmakers signed onto a legislative petition calling on the United States to set a timetable for withdrawal, according to Nassar Al-Rubaie, a spokesman for the Al Sadr movement, the nationalist Shia group that sponsored the petition.

It's a hugely significant development. Lawmakers demanding an end to the occupation now have the upper hand in the Iraqi legislature for the first time;
