Why is it a "benefit" when our employers offer it to us--and yet evil when we
offer it to ourselves through our government?

(Healthcare, specifically) That just popped into my head while I was making my steel-cut oats this morning.

there are huge differences between private employers footing the bill and taxpayers footing the bill.

6. Because when it is a employer, it is a 'gift' one that they can and will stop giving you after
awhile to save money, the costs for that benefit or gift they give you come out of their profits and the employee's pocket. When it is the government the costs come out of everyone's taxes and how dare the government use *my* tax money to benefit that guy, or that woman, presumably I don't like those people. In a situation like that *my* taxes are used to give them health care, and since they are *my* taxes I'd probably rather it get used to fund huge military projects that make companies rich and to pay for wars, cause that's the American way, not helping other Americans*.

*Note giving huge sums of government cash to companies owned by Americans for weapons and equipment isn't helping Americans it is capitalism and that is American way.

8. Because a benefit is an incentive for people to be good workers, whereas when the nanny state
gives it to them, it encourages them to be lazy? :eyes:
