For Bush, the Welcome Mat Seems a Little Less Welcoming
Source: Washington Post

Finding fine speaking venues at graduation is never easy for late-second-termers, as President Bush is learning. Whereas he once spoke at Ohio State or the University of Texas, now he's left with Florida community colleges or small schools in rural areas that are run by former aides.

But it looks as if it won't be smooth sailing Friday, even when Bush speaks at Saint Vincent College, a small Benedictine school in Latrobe, Pa., run by Jim Towey, former head of the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives.

The invitation itself, as we wrote in March, sparked what Towey called "lively and welcome discussion." That included an opposition petition with more than 400 signatures, town hall meetings -- and a 41 to 30 faculty vote backing Towey.

Thirty current and former faculty members, in an open letter to Bush last week, said "in the spirit of Benedictine hospitality" they would "welcome" him to the campus "as we would any visitor" as 1,600 students graduate. And they said they will "welcome those who protest your visit" and hope the college doesn't "turn them away" on Friday.

1. Is "late second-termers" a euphemism for
"utter and complete fuck-ups"?

2. Isn't that cute!
They know Bush is the most heavily armed leader in the "Free" World.

There's no way his small army of security will allow protesters.

"And they said they will "welcome those who protest your visit" and hope the college doesn't "turn them away" on Friday."

Very clever. That almost guarantees he won't show up.

3. Appearing Soon at A 7-11 Near You!
The President of the Free World -- no, the Slurpies aren't free.

There's a new Food Lion opening down the way. Maybe they can get him to give a 'major policy speech'. People will actually come hear him -- if they promise to give free balloons to all the kiddies. And free Chivas to all the daddies.

4. Not even nuns like him.
"Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports that Benedictine nuns from Erie may be going down to Latrobe to take part in some sort of protest."

6. It's strange, but I've found Catholic nuns
to be far more liberal in their thinking than their male clergy counterparts and the Catholic congregation in general.

5. Recently at a ribbon cutting ceremony at a local Petco...
Moron* charmed the crowd with threats of terrorism from al queda dogs and cats.

"The incessant nighttime yapping of the terror Yorkies and the persistent hissing of the terror Calico's has all of us in the U.S. gov't on high alert...guard against this type of animal husbandry manipulay-shun. I have enlisted the help of my own pooch. I speak with him nightly regarding the horrors of the dreaded flaming dog poop or the yellowed laundry. They will stop at nothing to take away our freedoms!!"

They'll let Georgie speak, but only if he doesn't get finger paints all over his smock.
