Question: Are we in Iraq to fulfill promises * made to oil companies?
I can't get past the fact that the reason it is so important for * to have our troops in Iraq is to ensure that the oil companies get their promised allotment of the booty. I can't seem to see it any other way, they can't leave because then the chance that the oil revenues go to someone other than who they were promised to will be blown and the oil execs will be pissed at the broken promise.

6.  Dickie "Five Military Deferments" Cheney in a war zone?

I'll bet he's got an entire regiment of National Guard protecting his chickenhawk butt, and diverting them from doing their real job of protecting the "Homeland" (formerly known, with pride until the republicons came in, as The United States of America.

3. Sort of.
We are in Iraq so that we have a military force in control of or in near proximity to the mesopotamian oil fields as the planet enters the peak oil crisis. Along the way, we are continuing a policy of keeping Iraqi oil off the global market to a large extent, a policy that is now in its 16th year and that directly benefits the Saudi-Texas Oil Mafia.

4. No doubt. I read here this morning that Bush/Cheney** promised...
...the Saudis that we wouldn't leave Iraq.

5. IMO, The promises were made by Cheney at those "Energy Planning"
meetings early in this administration that he worked so hard to keep secret.
