If you're looking for money to keep social programs going, give aid to cities and towns, give money for teacher salaries, firemen salaries, policemen salaries, fix our roads and bridges, I have some low hanging fruit for you to pick: the one trillion dollar a year military budget.
We have enough airplanes, drones, cluster bombs, white phosphorous artillery shells, depleted uranium shells, nuclear bombs, missiles, weapons, aircraft carriers, submarines, and Navy ships to protect our shores. Unfortunately we also have over 700 bases in countries around the world; $2 billion here, $500 million there, it eventuality adds up. I'm still not sure why we need to control space or spy on American citizens, but I'm sure you understand these things. Perhaps you could tell us why this is so.
Now Ike Skeleton is pushing for more Navy ships (they are expensive) and does not want to cut military manpower. Wouldn't the soldiers released from downsizing be of better use in green jobs or rebuilding our country? Killing people is not the same as helping people. I'm sure you know the meaning of 'kill' and 'help'.
The United States is rapidly approaching the all time record of Joseph Stalin in terms of dead people. Do we really need to exceed Joe's accomplishments?
I and many others are aware of the reasons we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq: oil and oil pipelines. Come on, the Iraq invasion was originally named Operation Iraqi Liberation. There's nothing quite like a Freudian slip.
Lastly I know you haven't used your Nobel Peace Prize for anything useful. Why don't you start by getting us out of the sandbox? The occupations are costing us $200,000 a minute and I'm not sure how much longer we can afford that.
Sincerely, unhappycamper
