CNN's 'Gentlemanly' Henry says Fox should get Thomas's seat
Edited on Wed Jun-09-10 01:07 PM by BurtWorm
He's the asshole in charge of the WH correspondents association, I believe, the twit who was tweeting over the weekend about how much fun he and the boys were having getting Supersoaked by Rahm Emanuel at Joe Biden's place:

Wall Street Journal

Ed Henry explains why: "When CNN bid for the front row in 2007, Fox could have challenged it and had a knock-down, drag-out fight like the one we might have this time. But they did the gentlemanly thing and said CNN had more seniority. I've got to honor that commitment."

1. Eh. I have a hard time disagreeing. Fox News is, bar none, the biggest cable news organization.
CNN's up in the front, NBC is up in the front, Fox ought to be too, regardless of my view of their politics.

2. It's rubbing salt in a wound to say it.
Besides, characterizing Fox as a "news organization" is arguable. Propaganda wing of the RNC maybe. Why not put National Enquirer in the front row, while we're at it?

8. I agree they're more opinion than fact ... but the seat was occupied by an opinion columnist...
so it's not as though it's without precedent.

13. So why should they get the seat? Why not a more senior journalist?

14. I think that's a fine argument to make. Fox has been around since, what, '96 or '97?
And Bloomberg, the primary other option has been around longer, IIRC.

3. true. but I still wouldn't give them the time of day - they outright lie & distort, you cannot
reward deceit.

11. all columnists have opinions - FOX has a single agenda . . . and it makes no
effort to hide that agenda

16. You have to understand, I'm not making value judgments here at all.
I'm just saying that, since 2000, Thomas has been an opinion columnist, so I don't think Fox News' status as an opinion-driven organization is enough to deny it a seat in the front row. I do think the seniority argument, which has been used in the past, means that, of Bloomberg and Fox, this seat should go to Bloomberg.

10. What passes for a "news" outlet these days
is pretty goddamned pathetic. Hell why not just give Helen's seat to James O'Keefe and be done with it.

Just like our government -- the future of news belongs to the corporate overlords, not we the people.
