Hillary, Bill Clinton dine in Bogota amid better security
1 hr 27 mins ago

BOGOTA (AFP) – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday touted how much security has improved in Colombia by revealing that her husband Bill Clinton joined her for dinner in a Bogota restaurant.

Clinton arrived late Tuesday in Colombia for talks with President Alvaro Uribe and other officials as part of a four-country tour of Latin America, and the former president who was here on separate business met up with her.

"We had a wonderful dinner last night here in Bogota among friends, some Colombians, some American, and we talked about how remarkable it was how such a common event could take place," Clinton told a press conference.

She said that as she drove Wednesday to the presidential palace for the press conference, "my heart was filled with the hope that I know fills the hearts of so many Colombians that what has been accomplished will only go from strength to strength."

1. For DU'ers with time to research, the area, Soacha, is the home to some young men who were recruited

by the Colombian military, taken to another town, and killed, then their bodies were used as "false positives," th he routine employed by both the Colombian military and the closely allied Colombian paramilitaries to kill civilians, then count them as "the enemy" or "FARCs".

The military has given awards to soldiers who murder, create "false positives" and the paramilitaries do it apparently just for the hell of it, whenever they get the chance.

Do a search on "false positives." Even the Washington Post has lowered itself enough to do a feature article on it by Juan Forero.

You can see YouTube Parts I and II, posted by DU'er "rabs" in the Latin America forum:

Part I:

From rabs first post on the video, in Spanish for Spanish speaking DU'ers:
"Poverty, a crime that is paid for with death."

"...It tells the story of the poor youths from Soacha (poverty-stricken slum area on the outskirts of Bogota) who were offered jobs elsewhere in Colombia and a month later wound up as false positives, killed by the Colombian army. Video shows mothers of two of the youths, government claims that the FARC had killed them, then Santos saying they were killed in combat, uribe saying the same, until the truth finally came out in NGOs and Colombian and international media. This was happening in August 2008 when JM santos was defense minister.

Video is in Spanish, but easy to follow.
