Ann Coulter: 'Newsweek' Teaming Up with al-Qaeda To Help Obama
Published: May 09, 2007 12:10 AM

NEW YORK A recent Newsweek poll showing Democrat Barack Obama leading top Republican presidential hopefuls could have been made up and might help al-Qaeda, syndicated columnist commentator Ann Coulter said in her latest verbal broadside.

Coulter, a best-selling author known for outrageous and often controversial statements, was asked on Fox News' "At Large" what she thought about the survey results.

"I think this is Newsweek doing more push polling for al-Qaeda," she said, referring to campaign-season telephone calls to voters masquerading as neutral surveys but designed to build opposition to targeted candidates.

Asked by host Geraldo Rivera whether she thought Newsweek would make up the results, Coulter said, "Yes, I do," adding, "In polls where people are actually allowed to vote, Republicans do a lot better."

Coulter did not explain how the poll might help the terrorist group. Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, some Republicans have argued that their party would do a better job of protecting the U.S. against terrorism than Democrats.

Coulter's remark drew a response from Evans Witt, chief executive officer of Princeton Survey Research Associates International, which conducted the Newsweek survey.

"As the 2008 election campaign continues to heat up, I am sure that there will be informed and incisive criticisms of polls from many observers," he said. Coulter's comments "do not fit into this category," he added.

Newsweek spokeswoman Jan Angilella said the magazine would have no comment.

In March, Coulter used a gay slur about Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards. About half a dozen newspapers dropped her column after that.

1. I'd advise Obama to sue her ass, but I'm not entirely certain that is
exactly what she wants him to do in order to get more media attention on herself.

3. U know, I think she is in a deep spin from her previous outlandish
comment and she is losing sponsors, newspapers are dropping her so she now is in the vicious cycle of saying something else totally ridiculous and outlandish to try to keep herself going. Who knows, otherwise she is just plain ignorant as I have always thought.

7. Which previous outlandish comment?
She makes so many. It's more than enough to warrant her on the "who cares what she thinks" list.

I really don't think she's that ignorant. She probably only beleives a 1/4 of what she says. She's a sensationalist who sells books with hardline comments. Now her followers...yeah, those are some scary mother f***ers.

9. Yeah, you are probably correct, she isn't stupid, just making tons of money
from her stupid remarks and books.

11. Not really, because the media keeps giving her a platform.
The venom that she spews, seeps into people's heads from constantly seeing and hearing and reading her garbage. Not everybody is as discerning as DUers when it comes to that sort of thing.

It doesn't matter how much we here at DU ignore her. She's going to keep negatively impacting the politica discourse in this country as long as she's given a free pass and a platform in the corporate media.

If the media were to pull out the rug, she could go back to ranting on streetcorners, but that doesn't seem likely to happen.

12. Because she makes ratings happen
And as soon as some political shows (particularly those not on FOX) start telling her, "we're not interested...it's gotten stale." Is the moment she gets put into the ashbin of history.

14. She gets a platform because she helps push the corporatist agenda
of the major media conglomerates. They seem to be willing to take a loss on their ratings if it means that their larger agenda will be propagandized more effectively.

That's my feeling anyway.

5. Hell, Newsweek should challenge her to prove her claims.
They won't, of course, but they should.

6. Hehehe. CEO of the company who conducted the survey said this...
As the 2008 election campaign continues to heat up, I am sure that there will be informed and incisive criticisms of polls from many observers," he said. Coulter's comments "do not fit into this category," he added.

According to him, Coulter is neither informed or incisive. High-five, Evans Witt.

10. Perhaps she is really just a huge hoax, someone who is an actress paid to play a harpy
descending upon our republic. See, a bunch of comedy writers think of the most outlandish stuff that they can, and try to get a new Tina Fey's "Colonel Angus" skit out of us, to see how long she can say the stuff without breaking out in laughter.

Or else she is the new Dean Swift.

It must be read as humor and satire, not as seriousness. She is a commedienne, lighten up on the gal!

15. Pretty easy really.
Huge numbers of copies get bought up by Richard Melon Scaife, and end up selling for a dollar at Newsmax or being given away through various RW think tanks. And then there's always a few suckers who listen to RW hate radio, and actually buy tripe like that at real bookstores.

16. Just in! Coulter sniffs own wind, becomes addicted.
Dr. Dijew Pumble confirmed arch right-winger Ann Coulter had become addicted to her own intestinal flatulence.
"I saw a few cases at Bellphew, where I interned," opined Pumble, "but these patients were people into anyone's flatus. Coulter's case is intriguing because it introduces an auto-induced cycle, whereby she eats only foods designed to produce excess gas, then vents and quickly drops down to an appropriate level to gulp and snuff her own fume."
When asked if this was a dangerous condition, Pumble was hesitant to release any more findings.
"Certainly, it's embarrassing; you know, getting down in a crowd and quaffing like a Labrador. Otherwise, I see no danger unless someone is smoking nearby. She could experience fire-eater's syndrome or FES."
