Right wing not even trying anymore: "If gays get equal rights, YOU WILL DIE!!!111!!"
Quote of the day from Cliff Kincaid, commenting on discussions about lifting the ban on gay men donating blood: "Do you or your loved ones want to die in order to advance the gay rights agenda?"

1. Teh Gay Cooties are rarely fatal
Just tell these guys that gay blood won't kill you. It will just give you an irrepressible urge to listen to the Pet Shop Boys and Lady GaGa and read interior decorating magazines.

:sarcasm:

2. Just a point of discussion...
Am I assuming correctly that the ban is due to HIV infections? I know at one point there was an enormous gap in HIV rates between homosexuals and heterosexuals. Does anyone have current data? I'm on my iPhone so I can't easily look it up.

4. You're the inside man, you should know more than us civvies about the subject.
Didn't the ban exist since forever? And wasn't DADT a kinda sorta easing of such ban?

8. Gah. Forget that. That'll teach me not to post before coffee.
About donating blood: the statistics MAY have supported the ban in the first years of the AIDS epidemic, but now? The only questions that make sense are "did you have promiscuous unprotected sex" and "did you use intravenous drugs". "Are you gay" tells precisely nothing.

6. If all blood is tested, then what is the point in banning gay donors?
I've never understood the ban on gay blood donations. I could possibly understand back in the early 80's - when AIDS was still considered a "gay disease" and not much was really known about it. But 20 years later, we've come a long way in our understanding of the disease. The ban makes no sense nowadays. You can be a promiscuous straight male, having sex with random strangers every day, and yet you're allowed to give blood. But if you've ever had gay sex - even if it was just one time and you used protection - then your donation is not wanted.

Every donation is tested, so it really doesn't make sense to ban merely based on one's sexuality. I don't have any problem if they want to ban donations from people who engage in risky, unprotected sex - as long as that ban is applied evenly.

7. The ban doesn't make sense at all.
It's just more homophobia. These idiots are so full of hate, that they would rather die on the operating table or the battlefield than take any help from teh gays.
