Tybee Island police chief, supervisor suspended; 3 others resign after Tasing of autistic teen
Two officers and jailer resign; police supervisor also disciplined

Tybee police Chief Jimmy Price was suspended Wednesday pending further investigation in the wake of the recent Tasing of an autistic teenager by Tybee officers.

Tybee Island City Manager Diane Schleicher confirmed Wednesday evening that Price was suspended with pay for what she called "personnel reasons."

The suspensions and resignations came in the wake of a May 21 incident in which 18-year-old Clifford Grevemberg claimed he was beaten and Tased by Tybee officers.

Grevemberg, who suffers from a form of autism, has said he was sitting on a curb outside the Rock House on the night of the Beach Bum Parade when he was approached by officers and subsequently Tased. Tybee police said he was intoxicated and struggled with officers before he was Tased by Daniel, according to police reports.

On Monday, all Taser guns deployed by Tybee police were equipped with cameras that activate when fired, Schleicher added.
