The U.S. Military spends over $40,000 PER SECOND annually
I just read the post where most of the Democratic Presidential Candidates want to spend MORE on Military and I just about feinted. The Military budget is massive, accounting for more than 56% of all government spending. The total revenues from taxes last year was over $2 TRILLION. This means that the military spends well over $1 TRILLION (that's a MILLION MILLIONS) which is more than $40,000 PER SECOND PER YEAR.

Think about that. OVER $40,000 PER SECOND PER YEAR.

Do we REALLY need to spend more than that?

How about STOPPING the spending of defense $ on disgusting contractors like Haliburton and Blackwater and instead, use just a PORTION of that money to INCREASE the actual size of the military and the quality of life of the current soldiers and veterans. The cost of contractors per head is FAR HIGHER than that of those who wish to serve. Let's reward those who give their service to their country by giving them proper equipment and body armor instead of filling the profit chests of these disgusting contractors who would rob the National Treasury and walk on the backs of our soldiers.

4. Not counting supplemental spending which is Iraq funding
Edited on Wed May-09-07 12:46 PM by Bandit
That amounts to about $4,000.00 per second @ $125 billion a year. Not only that but we are paying out over $12,000.00 per second on Interest on our National Debt. Just think if we had our debt paid off what we could do with that money. Instead of paying down the debt though these fellows have almost doubled it in only six years..What do you think is going to happen when Interest rates go up?
