Many Democrats are upset that he's not eating them fast enough.

Most Republicans are upset that he is blaming the chef.

1. Yeah, and he put them all in sandwich bags, and handed them to progressives.
Now he's dining on filet mignon in the boardroom.

Next? :smoke:

his action and inaction on certain issues now make him, while not responsible, at least complicit.

want a leader to lead you out of the wilderness while you do nothing but just follow? Move to Iran.

47. Project much?
"want a leader to lead you out of the wilderness while you do nothing but just follow?"

That's exactly what you are doing by demanding NO criticism of the president.

Also, let me 'splain something to you. My posting on DU is not the entirety of what I do. I'm very active politically. You cannot know what I do to help ("other than complain"), because you don't know me.

Don't call me names, please. :hi:

23. I'm glad that you pointed that out...
And it does need to be said, like it or not.

It has been no secret that this country has been in really, really bad shape for quite some time. The economy was no surprise, nor were the two wars. Nor was it any secret that Bush & Co. fucked things up big time. None of this should have come as any 'big reveal' to President Obama on 1/20/09.

None of this should have been a 'WTF' moment for Obama....

Nor was it.

Obama worked his ass off during his campaign for this Presidency. And he won, despite the initial odds against him. And he won because he convinced all of us that voted for him that he was capable of doing the job, he knew what lay ahead of him, and he had the tools to start fixing things.

For folks to continue to claim things like "he was handed a shit sandwich" and "he inherited this huge mess" is, IMO, an insult to Obama. After all, he wasn't some dumb hick that crawled out from inside of a cave that he'd been sleeping in for 20 years! And he wasn't the 'victim' of unknown circumstances, either. Quit treating him as such.

My personal opinion is that in smoother waters, Obama would have made a brilliant president. I just don't think he's cut out for this rough sea.

9. yea I wonder how many of the people
responding below would rather have had McCain and Palin instead of an Obama at least TRYING to right the ship that Bush had almost completely sunk. Yea he fought hard for it but who expected an almost new depression and 800,000 lost jobs a month from Election Day 08 until after he took office? Bush and his cronies spent 8 long years ruining this country every single day. It's not like Obama is Superman and can swoop in and save the world.

10. Great! He's not as bad as Gramps and the snowbilly would have been..
That's a really weak defense for the president's dissing of progressives, and his apparent allegiance to our corporate overlords.

We will be living in a feudal system before long, if we don't stand against the predatory corporations and their evil, greedy agenda.

We gave Obama a mandate for CHANGE. Why wouldn't we be disappointed with the results? We saw Obama calling for more offshore drilling a month before the disaster in the Gulf Of Cheney. That kind of bit him in the ass, didn't it?

It is up to the president to provide the leadership to get some teeth into the legislation passed by congress. Pandering to repukes, in order to get any bill passed (no matter how wimpy it might be), is totally unacceptable.

but unfortunately that's the situation we find ourselves in isn't it? Since day one of his presidency he has had to operate with a total war policy by the GOP against him-ZERO cooperation. Alan Grayson, for instance.

I won't be joining the teabaggers, that's for sure.

You are correct about total war policy by the repukes. That's why it was a huge mistake by the president to entertain any ideas of bi-partisanship. All we got in return for that effort was watered down bills. The dems in congress and the president seem really excited about the "progress" they have made. I think it's all PR. Nothing of any substance has been achieved.

a woman who ran ads bragging about obstructing the Democratic agenda and then rubbed the noses of those who worked to vote in a 'better' Democrat in her victory, thereby alienating another progressive constituency I don't see the lack of more and better Democrats as the reason the President is not advocating/fighting for more progressive policy.

13. One of the lessons that I think Obama could learn from W and that he should have already known
Is that getting up and making a big speech does a HUGE amount for public perception.

Remember "Mission Accomplished?" Remember the speech through the bullhorn after the terrorist attacks?

Bush didn't actually DO anything, but the appearance that he was engaged and involved and INTERESTED at the very least kept his supporters pacified.

Where have Obama's big moments been? Or did the time for big moments end when he became elected?

28. There are things I disagree with Obama on...
but I have to say...he's one person, he needs the Dems in the house and senate to get things done. But there were Dems in both that prevented things from happening. For instance the public option. I've always said Obama should have "started" with single payer and we probably would have ended up with a decent public option...that would have been the compromise. But he couldn't do by himself.

When you've got the Repugs basically telling you to stick it up your ass, and some Dems that won't budge....that's a problem.

49. Obama knows how to "budge" reluctant Democrats.
Look at how he has handled the Progressive Caucus when they wouldn't give him his War Money.
He put the Winged Monkey on their asses....Chicago Style.

http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/06/17-5

When Kucinich was holding out for a Public Option...Obama HIMSELF went to Ohio and ran a negative campaign AGAINST Kucinich...in his home state!

Show me where he did anything to "budge" the conservative Blue Dog Dems or Holy Joe Lieberman.
.
.
.
.
He didn't.
He did everything he could to appease the Republicans and Blue Dogs (same thing).

Edited on Sat Jun-12-10 03:20 PM by Ignis
What did the administration really hope to gain from backing such a crappy primary candidate (albeit the incumbent), and ragging on Labor in the same primary cycle?

:wtf:

I'm just saying that the numbers quoted above don't tell the whole picture. If we enforced party discipline on key issues--especially populist-friendly ones like HCR-- it'd be a different story.

But like petulant children, progressives are upset that it isn't "fast enough".

I wasn't expecting him to perform miracles overnight. I was even willing to cut him a little slack when it came to the Afghanistan war.

But the thing is, he continues the attack on our society. Teachers, ramping up instead of ramping down the war, civil rights, on all of this and more he continues the assault on America.

I'm not upset that he isn't taking care of problems fast enough. I'm more concerned that he's simply making more problems for the American people.
