Or speak to the media?

They are forced to sleep something like 50 to a trailer in 3 stack bunk-beds?

Seriously...wtf.

I thought we fought a war to free ourselves from being British serfs quite a few years back.

Seriously...wtf.

3. Hadn't read that, but it reminded me of the "Martin Quarters" flotel

described shortly back-- each worker gets 30 square feet of space.

They were still unoccupied when the story was written June 1.

The gag on speaking to media has been widely reported, OTOH.

10. But to basically imprison them???
You shall NOT go out of our contained area.

They are probably paying basically nothing too. And making people sign off on any future health issues involved with cleaning up their toxic shit.

12. hmmmf. They fucked with American stuff. They shall pay American price. Liveable wage, housing
(not captivity) and workers should form a fucking union.

16. Especially when you're trying to limit your exposure to litigation
on the scale BP's facing. It's actually gone a bit beyond that, though, with the Grand Isle PR stunt as example. Locally elected parish and responsible safety officials complained on that day that they would not even divulge to them who (what subcontractor) had hired and sent them.

6. It is really weird.
I think maybe "the fifth column" is finally starting to get pissed enough to start digging for facts rather than the spoon fed BS.

gawd to have real journalism again

...sigh

It's not going to happen.

7. In the 50's the British forced Iranian oil workers to live in similar conditions.
The book All The Shahs Men covers this in livid detail.

17. Some of the best bits of reporting
on the workers' conditions have come from Mac McClelland at Mother Jones, IMHO. A couple have talked to her at a couple points, despite prohibitions.
