Public Opinion.
If a majority of Americans don't agree with something could it be right? Should we do something because a majority or Americans want it done? A majority of Americans did not want to go to Iraq but we did anyway. A majority of Americans wanted the public option but we didn't do that. Does public opinion matter on this that we have passionate feelings for? I just hate the whole argument about well a majority of Americans want it so we should do it.

1. Are you sure a majority of Americans didn't want to go to Iraq?
I don't recall it being that way, but my brain is a notoriously fogged and confused machine.

5. Yeah... I recall there were a sizeable amount of people who did not want the Iraq invasion,
but we were less than 50%, I think. Most people were gung-ho about it.

2. Do some research on the phrase "tyranny of the majority".
The California Marriage Protection Act (commonly referred to as Prop 8) is a good example.

4. A majority of Americans at one time thought slavery was a good source of labor...
Throughout most of our history most American thought it was OK to take Indian children from their families, force them to convert to Christianity, and speak English.

Most Americans used to think Jews, Blacks, Hispanics, Indians, Japanese, Chinese, and most other minorities were lesser human beings.

Most American used to think Gays having sex should be punished with a long jail sentence.

No, we should not do something just because the majority wants it.
