Obama can't suck up oil spill with a straw. All he can do "is put honest...people in place."
http://www.hindustantimes.com/Can-t-suck-Gulf-of-Mexico-oil-spill-with-straw-Obama/Article1-556724.aspx

US President Barack Obama had recently told Louisiana residents battling against the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that he cannot "suck it up with a straw".

The massive ongoing oil spill is now considered the largest offshore spill in US history, as tens of millions of gallons have spilled to date.

"Even though I'm President of the United States, my power is not limitless. So, I can't dive down there and plug the hole. I can't suck it up with a straw," The New York Post quoted Obama, as saying.

"All I can do, is make sure that I put honest, hard-working smart people in place to implement this thing. I will do everything in my power to do right by you guys and everybody along the coast," he added.

The spill stems from a sea floor oil gusher that followed the April 20 Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion, in which 11 platform workers were killed and injured others 17.

4. Why does that particular quote upset you?
"All I can do, is make sure that I put honest, hard-working smart people in place to implement this thing."

5. Two words
Rahm Emmanuel

heck, here's two more:

Larry Summers

It's a fair question to ask whether Obama could recognize an honest, hard-working smart person if that person were delivered to his desk with a forehead tattoo that said just that.

6. OK. Let's fix the quote!
"All Rahm Emmanuel can do, is make sure that Rahm Emmanuel puts honest, hard-working smart people in place to implement this thing for Rahm Emmanuel."

RAHM EMMANUEL!!

14. Au contrair.
I was happy as hell when Obama was elected. I was even thinking of changing my screen name to 'happycamper'. Then Obama doubled down in Afghanistan. And he doubled down again. And he is funding the occupations thru 'emergency supplementals'.

On the military and occupation fronts, I don't see a lot of difference between him and his predecessor.

17. Trust me, I share your frustration regarding his actions in the Middle East.
The Afghanistan occupation is a fucking shame and we should get the hell out of there. (my personal $0.02)

That said - I take the good with the bad.

It was posted on the White House website in their weekly video posting, “West Wing Week.” It was behind the scenes video of the Pres...that the reporters covering Obama were not allowed to be privy of.

9. Why is everyone so snarky these days? No one expects him to be aqua man but we do expect him to LEAD
Edited on Sat Jun-12-10 11:00 AM by ShamelessHussy
All these cop outs, coming from even our highest leaders, is deeply disturbing.

But seriously - A lot of folks are frustrated right now. Sometimes that frustration manifests itself snark.

I don't know, but I think being snarky at a time like this is pretty lame, and revealing (in a bad way), when you are in his position, in a time of a major crisis.

I expect it from anonymous posters on web blogs and discussion boards, but not from our leaders. And so I fear what it says about our culture, and what it means for our future, when even our leaders behave in such a poor manner.

20. I really haven't seen a lot of snark from our "leaders".
(I'm uncomfortable to even use the term "leaders" most of the time)

Off topic: Terry Crews has never disappointed me. That guy is consistently hilarious. I know that you were making an Idiocracy reference, but Terry Crews stole the the show in that fine movie.

21. all hands on deck, starting with the oil industry, followed up by international aid
then our men and women in uniform (if they are not too busy), the thousands impacted right there, and then by the millions who are unemployed, to lend a hand in the containment and cleanup.

But first he would have to take charge, to execute that, and not be lead around by BP.

We should see an invasion like force in the gulf, on land, sea, and air.

not six guys with rakes, shovels, and hefty bags and no respirators.

that's what he should do for starters.

does that answer your question?

notice, i didn't suggest he should dive down there and 'fix' the gusher himself, or any of the other BS snarks that some like to through around, and think they actually mean something.

31. I don't see that the military needs to be involved
And it would take an act of Congress for a lot of that and it may not be necessary. I imagine Obama's judgment (which we elected) is better than yours. sounds like a big show, some of which would be extra-constitutional (and we didn't like what Bush did on that score).

30. "All I can do, ....
....is make sure that I put honest, hard-working smart people in place..."

And THAT was Obama's first big mistake.

The DLC New Team

(Screen Capped from the DLC Website)

Ken Salazar, Obama's pick for Sec. of Interior, is a pure DLC, Big Business as Usual Industry hack that would NEVER rock the boat when there are Corporate Profits at stake.

Had Obama put an "honest, hard-working smart people in place" as Sec of Interior, someone who would have delivered the message, "No More Bullshit. The Regs WILL be enforced!" this catastrophe in the Gulf could have been avoided.

I worked on the Offshore rigs (70s - 80s) when the Major Oil Companies FEARED the MMS.

Accept all the offers of help and skimmer ships you get from anywhere and everyhwere!

That would be a great start.

Hell, Bush could do what you're doing.
