Don’t Let America’s Workers Wait Any Longer

Join with Let Justice Roll Living Wage Campaign: Tell Congress finish the job on minimum wage!

CALL TOLL-FREE 1-800-459-1887
Wednesday May 9th-Friday May 11th

Background: By February 1st, both the House and Senate passed minimum wage bills that increased the wage in three steps to $7.25. Yet, four months later, the bill is stalled and millions of minimum wage workers are still making $5.15 an hour. Tell Congress to stop playing politics and finish the job! The House and Senate were able to agree on a minimum wage bill when including the federal minimum wage increase in the recently vetoed Iraq supplemental spending bill. A minimum wage raise deserves to move forward on its own merits. It is time to send a stand-alone minimum wage bill to the President for signing!

If the minimum wage is passed into law today, Wednesday, May 9, 2007 a full time minimum wage worker would only be making $5.85 on July 9, 2007, $6.55 an hour on July 9, 2008 and finally $7.25 an hour on July 9, 2009.

URGENT ACTION:
Call your Representative and Senator TODAY:
Toll-free at 1-800-459-1887

Tell Congress to stop playing politics with the lives of millions of minimum wage workers and their families. A minimum wage raise deserves to move forward on its own merits. Now is the time to send a STAND ALONE BILL to the President for signing and finish the job!

Call these Senate leaders:
Senator Max Baucus (D-MT, Senate Finance Com. chair)
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA, Senate Finance Com. ranking member)

If you have time also call these House and Senate leaders:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)
Senator Harry Reid (D-NV)
Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD)
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY)

Call your representative toll-free at 1-800-459-1887.*
Capitol Hill Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

* The toll-free number is provided courtesy of the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker organization whose work for social justice, peace, and humanitarian service includes campaigns for a moral budget and a fair minimum wage (www.afsc.org/economic-justice/). AFSC welcomes groups to circulate and use the toll-free number in support of non-partisan work to raise the minimum wage and without linking the alert to a website soliciting donations or actions which may be used to support partisan lobbying or work.

The Let Justice Roll Living Wage Campaign is a growing partnership of more than ninety faith, community, labor and business organizations working to raise the minimum wage at the state and federal level.

2. I've always argued that it should be indexed to inflation, but the dumb fucks never listen
It would solve the incredibly stupid idea of continually going back to Capitol Hill every several years, but that would deprive the Democrats of a political football that they could use to beat on Repubs, but at this point, I don't think the welfare of workers is subordinate to political games.

Here in Mass it's at least up to 7.35 (or 7.15...forget off the top of my head) thanks mostly to Kennedy, who is always o this issue. He's also one of the only people not fleeing from the "Liberal" tag.Instead he embraces it.

19. K & R. And I agree with others that it needs to be indexed to inflation.
They need to get this done already. They've been talking about raising it to $7.25 for so long now that in the mean time, costs and inflation have risen to a point where it should be more like $8.25 - and that's what it should be RIGHT NOW. Not in another two or three years.

It's so damn frustrating.
