10. You should see what goes on at the annual Harvard-Yale Game up here.
In my case, it's personal. We live in New Haven and root for Yale, particularly because my ex-husband is a Harvard man. Nerves have been strung out over several of these games, let me tell you...

Sorry, there is no such thing as a UK or GB football team. But there'll be plenty of cheering in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast over this result.

39. soccer is a great game
the problem with USA soccer is that our best athletes go to the major pro USA sports..football...basketball..baseball...and hockey.

If soccer became a popular and wealth paying sport where our BEST athletes played we could compete with any team.

47. Good News
The good news is that the USA has a terrific international soccer team and are brilliant competitors. They've performed admirably in the last half-dozen World Cups and very nearly won an international tournament last year. I would be very pleased with them if I were you.

This was the toughest game for both of them. The US did a good job of playing their game. I can't say that for England.

29. England will be the laughing stock of the WC in no time
http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Sports/Story/A1Story20100603-219879.html
<snip>
ENGLAND coach Fabio Capello is to "spy" on his World Cup players in their hotel rooms, through high-tech TV sets.

The tough Italian has told his charges that he is determined to stamp out any hanky-panky at this month's World Cup Finals and has banned all wives and girlfriends (WAGs), reported The Daily Star.

It has been revealed that he will be able to call on his stars 24 hours a day - using their hotel television sets.

The TV sets have been installed at the team's £327 million (S$677 million) base camp in Rustenberg, South Africa.

The news has not gone down well with the stars. A source close to the squad revealed: "It's going to be like Big Brother. "The hotel rooms used to be the place we all escaped to, now they're not safe."

The news comes after it was revealed that Capello has banned all WAGs from joining the World Cup party, and told his players that they can hook up with their loved ones only once a week.

11. BBC commentary
"Fabio Capello will need to look long and hard for the positives there. England simply maintained their recent disappointing form and the reaction of the United States players at the final whistle confirmed the more satisfied team.

"It is hard to see how Capello can stick with keeper Robert Green after a moment that will have shattered his confidence. The worries about Ledley King's injury have returned and Emile Heskey - for all his honest endeavour - is a blunt instrument in front of goal.

"Is it too much to ask for Capello to put his two best offensive players, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard, closer together as an attacking pair? A poor start for England."

44. The Sun has their scapegoat, and a good game summary to boot!
England continued to look comfortable but disaster struck in the 40th minute when Green let Dempsey's harmless drive slip through his grasp into the net.

21. England controlled the ball for most of the game
but the US (after the first minute) made sure they didn't have control of the goal. They focused on that and little else. About midway through the second half they started to move it downfield more effectively, but really didn't have an attack and missed a couple scoring opportunities. That's okay, considering who they were up against, I think the strategy to focus on one thing and do it well paid off. The other guy at the bar was disappointed. He wanted to see a shootout or something. I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow in our group.

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own teams. (And for this first World CUp match, there were probably more Scottish, Welsh and Irish people supporting the USA team than England.)

They go to a shootout, which sucks. But in the playoffs, it's unlimited sudden death, which is why TV hates hockey.

40. England not UK
I'm English and got to say congratulations to USA for sheer dogged defensive determination and handling Rooney so well.USA got lucky with a goalkeeper fumble and given many USA players play over here or have done, then they would know English players very well.Honours even, think both USA and England should go through this group.
I do think if we meet in the knock out stages it's bye bye USA!But for now a well wrought draw for USA.I wish them well.

49. Congrats to you, too!
I think both of them will get out of the group (unless the US gets stupid like they sometimes do and lose to either Algeria or Slovakia because "they can beat them with their legs tied together". Hopefully they learned a lesson from Ghana last World Cup. PLAY every game.)

Of course, if they both get out of the group, they won't meet again until the Final, which would be really awesome for both teams. For the US, making it to the final would be a victory in itself.
