Disgusting Backlash against Al Sharpton by Imus Fans hits Cable News
Edited on Wed May-09-07 05:13 PM by KoKo01
It's disgusting how they take Sharpton's comments out of context and try to focus on him as a "bigot."

All PAY BACK by the RW and Media Sycophants for losing their enabler the beloved I-Man!

Romney is a Mormon. Glen Beck who is a Mormon is trying to fuel the fire since his ratings are in the crapper. So Beck enables the Imus Blowbackers to try to hang a guy who marched with Martin Luther King and (despite his Brawley incident) has been a champion of Democrats in the Black communtity.

(Edited: because Skinner informed me that Mormons are Christians but some find that "debatable" theologically)

What he said:

and what Sharpton says:

Sharpton Denies Insulting Romney, Mormons
From Staff & Wire Services

Posted May 9, 2007 – The Rev. Al Sharpton, a man of the cloth who is perhaps even better known for his political and civil rights activism than for his training as a preacher, is denying that he took a jab at Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and the Mormon faith.

During a debate Monday at the New York Public Library's Beaux-Arts headquarter with Christopher Hitchens, an atheist author, the Rev. Al Sharpton said, "As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation."

Sharpton said the comment, which was first reported Tuesday in a blog on The New York Times's Web site, was made only to show the difference between himself and Hitchens, who is the author of a new book, "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything. In the book, Hitchens refers to the Mormon faith as a "ridiculous cult."

"What I said was that we would defeat him, meaning as a Republican," Sharpton said in an interview with The Associated Press. "A Mormon, by definition, believes in God. They don't believe in God the way I do, but by definition, they believe in God," adding that the Romney camp was trying to stir up a controversy because of their political differences.

But Romney's camp, who found the comment "terribly disheartening and disappointing," wasn’t buying it.
