. . .stuck a camera in his face, started asking question & didn't identify himself.

I mean its normal behavior to walk up to anyone, NOT FUCKING IDENTIFY YOURSELF, stick a camera in their face and start barking questions, right?

10. Yeah, they are special.
:eyes:

Then again, they no longer really work for us anymore, so therefore, I guess they believe they are special.

3. Doesn't matter if the other guy showed "normal" behavior
Etheridge owns the fact that he assaulted the guy, which is illegal.

4. No - but after that little twerp did the piece
on ACORN and tried to cause trouble in LA, he might have been over suspicious and he could have been right. I think the students wanted a "gotcha" moment, that's why they didn't tell the congressman who they were,.

6. If he suspected that, he should have asked them, over and over again, in a patient,
calm way who they were and who they were representing. He could have just given them the "broken record" routine in a nice way. If they finally refused to identify themselves he should say "Well, when you do tell me who you are and who you represent, I'll be happy to give you an interview." And then walked away if they didn't comply. He could also have said to them "You need to stand an appropriate distance from me with your cameraphone" and repeated that over and over patiently. That way, they wouldn't have gotten their satisfaction. It would have been boring TV and that's useless...

7. The Congresscritter did it to himself
Lots of responses that would have produced nothing were available but instead he went ballistic. About as dumb as it gets. All the talking points in the world are not going to change that. Its assault, prima facie.

Time will tell if it impacts his re election. Screen caps from the video would make great hit pieces. He could get censured as well. Its his George Allen moment. Have to see if he survives

5. If they had been Code Pink supporters
getting in a congresscritter's face about funding for the wars in Iraq and/or Afghanistan, it would have been OK for a smackdown too, wouldn't it?

9. You need to watch that clip again -
- There was no ambush. The two with the cameras were standing on a public sidewalk and Ethridge walked up to THEM. They asked one question and there was no barking.

I recommend that public servants not in the mood to talk cross the street or turn around when they see anyone with a camera. At the very least, just give them a smile and a nod if they don't want to answer questions instead of a wrist and neck grab assault.

11. People can slice this anyway they want, but as soon as Ethridge laid a hand on the kid...
he lost.
